I want both an 8-way and a 4-way joystick on my CP. I was thinking of putting the two joysticks right next to each other, with a small amount of space between them. It seems like it might be comfortable and they won't interfere with each other. And the hand placement during play is almost exactly the same for each joystick.
Has anyone done this? Is it a good or bad idea?

Sounds like it should work. It seems so simple that there must be something wrong with it. Like, why haven't we seen it before?
Its probably an aesthetic thing.

Get yourself a T-stick plus.

You could also put them side by side - but vertically.

I had to have WICO leafswitch sticks, so I did an offset. The 8-way is far left, 4-way is upper middle. Third stick is another 8-way for Robotron. It works great!

Thats really slick there NOS.
Hey how did you fabricate the front plexiglass cubby hole for the admin buttons. Thats really some nice handywork.

I already have the 2 joysticks. Also, I tried the T-stick and I wasn't too thrilled with the feel in 4-way mode.

I did the side by side thing...works fine and what's cool is that you save on buttons because, say the 4 way is between two 8 ways (with accompanying standard 6 button layouts). For right handed players, they can use one set of buttons, and left handed players can use another. So basically, you don't need any dedicated buttons for the 4 way.,

If you use a Happ Ms. Pac reuion stick (mounted left side of the pair) and a full height wico or Happ stick (right side of pair), then you can literally mount them with the bases touching, and they won't even come close to getting in the way of each other.
You can't do it the other way around though, the reunion stick must be left side of the pair, unless you are one of those "joystick to the right of the buttons" freaks, in which case you have to reverse it. ;D

Wow, just noticed your question here. Sorry.
The recessed slot was cut all the way through the MDF with a 2 1/4" forstner bit at the ends, and I cut the middle out with a jigsaw. I smoothed everything down flat with a drum sander in my drill press. Then I radius the edges with a roundover bit in a router. The buttons are mounted to a 1/4" piece of plywood, which is mounted to the inside of the CP. The opening in the plexi was cut with a router with a 1/8" roundover bit, using the CP as the pattern. I then flame-polished the edge of the plexi opening to give it that crystal clear smooth look.
This cabinet is for my little girl, so the recessed buttons keep her from accidentally ending her game.
Oh, and thanks so much for the compliments.

Yeah, I like that, too. I wanted the buttons mounted in front, but I thought that people would accidentally hit them. This is a great way to mount the admin buttons. I think I'm going to do something like this with my cab.

Very nice man, thanks for the detailed explanation.
Thats very innovative, kudos man!
Yeah Mario that would be real nice to include that for the admin buttons. :)

Nice solution, nostrebor. I'd love to see more pictures of your cabinet.
