i have a new love for these rotary stick games. lets say i get a hold of a pair, what EXACTLY will i need?
1. sticks
2??
had a little trouble with searching, then again, im retarded, so dont be too mad if this is a crazy known answer.
-
1 - Joystick
2 - and interface between the joysticks and the encoder (ipac, keywiz, etc), i recomend druin's interface
3 - have fun !
i hope this helps you
-
hmmm what encoder?
-
Get a Keywiz encoder for for our joysticks and buttons from
www.groovygamegear.com
Or an IPAC2 keyboard encoder from www.ultimarc.com
Then get Druin's Rotary Interface from http://connect.to/rotary
You can also get a tutorial or instructions from druins website
-
I assume you are talking about mechanical rotaries (ie Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel).
-
I think you still need an encoder with the 49-way route. Druins will take up a lot of inputs so you'll probably need a second encoder just for buttons.
-
Druins board should only take up 4 inputs.
Player 1 clockwise
Player 1 counterclockwise
Player 2 clockwise
Player 2 counterclockwise
-
ugh, so the druins board is for the twisty part...is it possible to wire these suckers to an optipac? already have one of those,,,
-
Fine then, just use a spinner and a joystick. :P
-
The mechanical rotary will not work with an opti-PAC. The OPTICAL Rotary Sticks might though but I dont know if that will allow you to play Ikari or not.
-
that sucks a big one

yep, looks like im sticking with that.
although there are 2 snk sticks on ebay for cheap with no bids.....
=///
still like 75 dollars i dont want to spend, then i need to make a new control panel, than i have to redo some wires to make it swappable.....

If you get optical rotaries you can play Ikari with those. It just doesn't have the same feel as the clicky mechanical. You can also use them as a spinner. So you'd have a dual spinner setup. Granted the spinner joystick is not the greatest spinner in the world either.
-
ive been researching and i am going to get opticals soon. ill also try to get a nasty spinner.
what feels better, a nasty (that sounds so bad =( ), or an easyarcadesolutions?

I caught this link a couple days ago and as luck would have it had a pair of T-Stick Plus arrived on Friday. Spent $12 on parts and the better part of this afternoon putting together the rotary mouse hack and what do you know, it works like a charm. Took a little tweaking and a bit of frustration, but in the end it was well worth the time. I was able to get further in Heavy Barrel than I had ever gotten before; scored 75000 in Discs of Tron (which was about what I scored on average in the arcade); tempest was very playable; pretty much every decent rotary/spinner/driving game was playable from APB to Ikari.
Now if I can only get a trackball hack to work, I'll be in business.
