This is mostly just wondering but does anyone know if it is possible to hack a trackball to the X-Y axis of a mouse and then hack a spinner to the scroll wheel? I'm mostly just wondering if anyone has done this.

well not that specifically but i did wire up a spinner and a wheel to both be used by player one--since mame (DOS) recognizes the second mouse as player two, I (with the help of many here) created a switch so that player one could use either the spinner fixed to the control panel or, alternatively, whip the steering wheel from the coin door, screw it on, and play turbo. So the answer is yes I have done this and can walk you through it if need be.

Not that but Oscar has a neat little harness you can build to hook a spinner and a trackball to one usb mouse hack. look at

Mame does not read the scroll wheel, just the X and Y axis. But hacking a trackball to X-Y axis is common, and hacking a spinner to the X axis is also common. I haven't tried it, but Oscar's switch hack looks cool. Also, you can have a bunch of mouse hacks connected at once no problem with mame in windows, as long as you only want to control player 1.
