Hi guys,
Can anybody give me an advise on how to place the PC power button on the arcade cabinet itself?
Obvisously I do not want to have to go inside the cabinet to turn the computer on/off.

open case,
cut wire, to PC switch.
add more wire to the wire going to motherboard.
run new wire to anyplace you wish, attach to arcade button.
done ;)

I over thought the process also when I started into this hobby

I cant figure this out either.
Im not good with cutting/extending wires etc..
At the moment, my plan is to have my dummy coin door open up to reveal the PC tower, or at least the part of the tower that has the power button so that I can switch it on/off

If your motherboard supports it, you can set up your BIOS to boot from the spacebar, mouse click etc. Mine does and I used the default setting on my I-Pac to allow me to boot with the corresponding button. (IE I press the button that sends the spacebar key to the PC and it boots). I found that to be easier than adding wire, finding a place to put it etc.

In an ATX case there are two wires coming from the power button that connect to the motherboard via a connector that looks similar to a jumper. The power button on the front of the case is a momentary-on pushbutton, just like an arcade button. In fact, if you took a small piece of wire and touched the two metal posts this jumper-connector touches, you would turn on the computer. This is one of the easiest things you can do, and gives the cabinet a "finished" feel, rather than having to fish around and find the PC power button. Don't be scared to cut the wires - you can always twist them back together and tape them off! It's almost impossible to screw anything up trying this...

I too turn my computer on by just touching a button or moving a joystick. I use GameEx for my front end and I have the option of shutting it down from there. If your Bios allows it I think it is easier than chopping up your PC.

You don't need to cut any wires. Just need wire tap-ins.

Basically they create a jump between two wires.
You do need to find out which two wires go to your power button. Your motherboard will have a header for speaker, power, hdd light, reset switch, etc.. and most likely will be labelled. If not you have to follow wires.
