I have a Playstation (PS1) and noticed that prices for Playstation 2's are coming down. I know PS2s are backward compatible and will play PS1 games. QUESTION: Will a link cable allow you to connect a PS1 with a PS2 and play, for example, the PS1 version of Gran Turismo for head-to-head play? Assuming you have two TVs and two copies of GT.

No.
Even the later PS1s(the PSOne redesign, specifically) didn't have the link port.

Thanks. What about the serial ports?

The link port IS the serial port.
You may mean the parallel port. AKA Gameshark port.
That was scrapped before the link port was. Last model of the original case design did it(9000 series).
