Title: Step down transformer for DC

OK, my US DC is on it's way, but I need to power this on our 230 V mains.

I have two options:
1) Use a step down converter like this:

2) buy a new power supply that accepts all mains voltages (about triple price of step down)

About the step down converter: isn't this simply just a 2:1 transformer ? Would it be cheaper to get just such a transformer ? Or is there more electronics involved ?

Since when is $15 for DC replacement power supply tripple of $10 stepdown converter plug?  IMHO just buy the stepdown plug, trying to do this even cheaper by making your own is only going to get your system fried.

Well, I got a step-down converter for a very good price through a contact at a shop ...no need to hassle with building something myself....it works fine :)

Still, I examined the original 120V power supply in the DC and there's some markings that it is fused with 250V fuses....maybe it will accept "any" voltage ?

 Anyone ever dared to try ? I'm not going to, but I would be interested to know :)...

The Lik-Sang replacement supplies look only a little different and support all voltages....so why would SEGA build different supplies for world markets when they too could handle the world market with one type ?
