Title: Electrical Drama
Post by: Lomar on August 27, 2005, 04:18:33 pm
Okay..I have an old cabinet that I"m setting up with Mame.

The joy of this cabinet was I could use the original marquee light AND the coin slots lit up.  Guy even gave me a box of extra lights.

Cool.

Now...that I have it all painted up and my PC built, I start plugging stuff in and discover that the power supply that came with it (some 150 watt ancient thing) doesn't appear to be turning on.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So, I start looking for a replacement power supply.  All I really need is to power the marquee light and the front coin slots and it dawns on me...do i really NEED t a power supply for this?

I could easily pick up a $10 light at Home Depot that will plug directly into a power strip for the marquee.

But.....what do I do about these front coin lights?

Does anybody know of a device or method to convert or connect the molex looking connector coming from the front coin slot lights into a regular 2 or 3 prong outlet?  Impossible?  Do I need to buy a power supply just to turn on these lights?

Hold on. Is it an arcade power supply? Those things will shut down if there is no game board connected. Chances are it works, but you don't have a game plugged in... (??)

.................................  :P

That's probably the situation because there is another wire that comes out of it that goes to some sort of contraption that has a fuse on it and that draws power because the marquee light comes on.

However, the front coin lights ones are fed off a different wire that seems to be dead.  The fan never actually spins up on the power supply.

Well...bummer...all the more reason to bypass that power supply because I won't have a game board attached.

Ideas?  A website that sells some sort of adapter or something?  anything?

Marquee light is likely powered from mains power.

The 12V lamps on the coin door should likely be powered from your PC powers supply.  Although I'm not sure of the amperage requirements on this, and if you can burn the PS using it.  Ken?
