all right. here we are! i finally picked up 'the beast' (no, not chads wife from the other thread!). It's a type III VW. So bones, we're cousins! you with your type II, my sister with her type I. i cant believe you couldnt guess...
johnnyboy, if i can get used to gun metal grey, you sure as hell will get used to green! I have a soft spot for type III's because i used to own a beach buggy with a type III engine. they're great. because they are much flatter than the beetle motor (to give you a bit of boot room) they fan is more of a turbine affair running straight off the crankshaft. so it has value to me in that regard. not only is there no radiator or water pump to go wrong, if you break the fan belt you only end up with a flat battery (",).
ok, EVERYONES car (including paiges) can now move up one place on the chick magnet poll ;D . but i already love this car more than the only NEW car ive ever owned. because of the colour, and the two doors (and the sneaky way you cant tell which way its facing!) i think its trying to be a little sinister but not quite succeeding. In the same way as "The Master' from Dr Who doesnt quite make it. And so i introduce to you:
THE MASTER!
muahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahhahahhaha

That is so rad.

Finally! Glad it wasn't an Alfa. Only evil people drive Alfa's.
I gotta say, I like it. It has charm and a crap load of character. First name Master, second name Bate. It goes well with pictures I have seen of you.
Interesting that turbine thing, I wasn't aware of that. I am currently on my second Kombi, the first one kicked a belt 80km out of Alice and I baked my engine about 10 years ago. The Suburu dealer in Alice Springs was good enough to get me in a replacement engine at only twice the normal cost. Wish I had a turbine thingy......

Is there enough room for nana? Go on, take her picture. You know you want to.
If I have but one regret in life, it is that I didn't feature nana in all my construction photos and story. Hmm... maybe nana could visit for awhile?
Do you still have that file? The old link is gone.......

I'll see what size it is. If gmail will let me, I'll pass it along. *edit* you've got...mail
For some reason, that car looks familiar....something about the taper on both ends....as if when it is coming out of the factory, the assembly line door will slam shut without that taper ;)
Anyone NOT getting that, don't ask me to 'splain it. Things simply aren't funny if they have to be 'splained to you. Either you get it, or you don't. End of story.

You know, I have never seen one of those in person in my entire life, although I have seen just about every other type of VW, and several of the ones that look just like that, but with a station wagon rear end.
-
I love it Danny, but then I'm kind of a sucker for odd European cars.

Nana brought this as new when she was 19.

stingray, you da man! since the fire, weve lost all memorabilia of nan. so its such a wonderful stroke of luck that you have the photo of her in her first car! id actually forgotten that she owned a type III, only hers was called 'the mister', never did know why...

yeah, same model. the staion wagon was a type three. theres the station wagon, fast back and my version, the notch back. station wagon was the most useful in my opinion and so i bet there were more of those sold...
