This just started happening...
Sometimes When I launch a game from Mamewah, I see the mame command line flash and minimize and I have a black screen. I can hear the game in the background..
Of course I can just alt-tab to get the focus back...but...
Now what did I do (or the kids do)?
-
I've been having the same problem for some time now, and haven't been able to find a solution.
-
Well I'd never seen the problem...until very recently when testing a new beta on my cab.
Firstly make sure you have no other apps running (not sure if this helps or not yet), and also try the {safelaunch} commandline flag.
Let me know if you have any other info as I'll be trying to squash this bug soon...

What I said in my previous reply seems to be right...please see this thread:

You know what it must be....
I recently installed the light gun driver and have it running in the background...
I guess more people will have this problem if they are using their PS2 lightguns...
-
well...it aint that...
I closed out the light gun program and it still loses focus..
the weird part is that it only does it SOMETIMES...?

Same here, happens about 50% of time time.
-
Same here. This started recently and only happens about half the time...very strange. I'm using MW v 1.60 and it's been stable until about a week ago. ::)
I posted the question of where to place the {safelaunch} in the Mamewah forum.

I posted the question of where to place the {safelaunch} in the Mamewah forum.
In mamewah's INI folder, look at the specific emulator Ini file.(mame.ini)
### Execution Settings ###
emulator_executable c:\mame\mame.exe
commandline_format [name]{nodosbox}{safelaunch}
btw,I don't have any problem with mamewah. :)
I am using WindowsXP lite.Mamewah always load as windows shell and run games quite efficiently.
Minwah told me to bring out a new version of Mamewah,But i am still waiting :-\ i Hope it will also solve your problem. :police:
-
yep,
My ini had nosafelaunch as an option...
changing it to safelaunch seems to have solved all problems of focus...
thanks all!!

Is anyonee else unable to get to the Mamewah forum? It says forbidden. ???
I posted my ini file there hoping for a reply. Here is the execution settings in my mame.ini file within Mamewah.
Can someone let me know what is wrong here? When I launch games, they sometimes launch okay (video and sound), and sometimes the games launch with sound only. Because this only happens about half the time, I'm stumped.
I'm using MW 1.60.
Thanks!
### Execution Settings ###
emulator_executable c:\mame\mame.exe
send_rom_path 0
send_rom_extension 0

commandline_format [name]{nodosbox}{safelaunch}

why don't you Use latest available mamewah 1.61[may be 1.62]Ifavailable
This problem should be solve by including {safelaunch} flag.
Check your mame's folder for mame.ini file C:\mame\mame.ini
### Windows video options ###
resolution 800x600x16
Then set mamewah's mamewah.ini
### Misc Options ###
layout Classic 800x600
Now set your Desktop/windows resolution to the same 800x600 [16 Bit]

Do you have any other apps running in the background (in the system tray for example)?
Closing all apps fixes the problem for me.

There used to be a thread around here that addressed this very issue. Did you try searching for it? I fixed this problem on my cab by installed the Xmouse Windows PowerToy from Microsoft. I have a trackball though, so that helps.

It seems the 'frames_to_run 1' trick was almost certainly causing this problem. Not sure why, but since it has been 'fixed' it shouldn't be an issue in v0.100+

Unfortunately for those of us using older versions of mame, the "fix" won't work. Upgrading to newer versions of mame seems to slow the older games to the point where I'd rather see the warning screens (Galaga for example), than have my favs play too slow.

Fair point.
I don't know why using frames_to_run 1 causes MAME to lose focus however, so if you are using that then I suggest you stop to cure the focus problem.

I have reversed it back to frames_to_run 0 and it solved the focus issue. If anyone figures out a way to use the frames_to_run 1 without losing focus, please post.
Thanks. :)

by the way, I also have the focus error if I'm using "buddamame" .97 with "skip_warnings" enabled, and {nosafelaunch} set

Odd. To be honest there is not much difference between {safelaunch} and {nosafelaunch} (as far as MAME is concerned at least). {nosafelaunch} should look a bit cleaner when switching resolutions (loading/quitting games), but it depends a lot on monitor type etc.
