Title: CAB design questions
Post by: Breaker on August 22, 2005, 12:29:28 pm
Hi all,

I'm in the final stages of planning my CAB and had a couple of questions for the community.

My design will use elements from LuSID, Arcade Paradise and Mortal Combat cabinets (mostly Mortal Combat) but I'm wondering what people have done regarding these design elements:

1) panel inset
How much of an inset have you used for the front/top/speaker/back panels of your CAB.
From reviewing various designs it looks like 1/2" to 3/4" of is the norm but I'm wondering about the practicality of the inset measurement. Is 1/2" too small or 3/4"  too big - just wondering if there are any design issues to kep in mind when deciding on the inset?

2) control panel height
This is most likely a personal preference but, as someone who works on computers all day, I know that if I make the CP too high it will create wrist strain - any guidelines for the height of the CP - or should I base it on the same priciples as keyboard height (based on my own height of course)?

3) monitor angle
I'm going with the Mortal Combat monitor angle of 30 degrees - are there any issues with tilting a WG D9200 (or any other monitor) to this angle?

Thanks to all,
Breaker.

I personally like the 1/2" inset.  I used the Mortal Kombat dimensions from Jakobud.com as a starting point.  I used it to get overall height of the control panel.

I'm not sure about the WG D9200 depth... but when I used the Mortal Kombat dimensions I found that the depth of the cabinet was not sufficient to accommodate the Betson + Happs Monitor Bezel + 1/2" reveal + Glass (the monitor would have poked out the rear).  I had to re-cut the sides with an additional 2" front to back.

Good Luck
Jim
