Title: Kids playing with computers screwed up settings
Post by: SirPeale on August 21, 2005, 10:22:49 pm
I use the 'Quick Launch' toolbar frequently.  One of my kids deleted the 'show desktop' icon, one of my most used shortcuts.  How can I get it back?

It would have been...if it hadn't been deleted.  Blast!

Windows button and 'D' combo also takes you there.

I think you want to drag "show desktop.scf" from your Windows or WinNT (or maybe System or System32 folder to the folder above (or directly to the bar with a copy command).  I also might be able to tell you how to rebuild it if it's gone, but it might be easier to copy it off a different computer.

If it's not in your system anywhere, just type the following:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

into notepad or wordpad and save it as "show desktop.scf"

Save it to WINNT or a system folder and then create a shortcut for it on the Quick Launch Toolbar.

Ha!  I opened a 'new text' document on my desktop, and accepted the defaut name (which is, of course "New Text Document.txt") and entered in the text you mentioned.  Then when I tried to rename it, it told me the the filename already existed in that directory!  Lo and behold, it's already there!  I guess they didn't delete it, just moved it.

That'll teach me to have a severely cluttered desktop.

Thanks again, all!
