Post by: kangarolf on August 21, 2005, 04:03:09 pm
Hi all,

I keep seeing references to the real bob roberts set of pages. They look like a great source of info but none of the links seem to work..? Has it disappeared..?

Cheers all

Just so everyone knows. The domain "therealbobroberts.com" was just a forwarding domain that someone registered as a favor to Bob. This domain expired August 2nd. Best to use direct links (as above) from now on.

I have server space as well if Bob Roberts needs it to host the actual domain as well.

PM me if its required.

Can't we get some donations to re-register the domain before someone steals it for nefarious uses (e.g. like linking to pr0n or something bad)

It's only about $10 to register a .com a year isn't it?

mostly depends on the name, but it can be anywhere from 7-20$/year

checked real quick for registration and it shows therealrobroberts.com as unavailable.

Maybe it just hasnt been cleared out or its been snatched. Either way there is no DNS for it. (gives 404)

If its cheap I have no real issue with picking it up and forwarding it to Rob's page

fyi:  the company that registered the domain has to hold on to the expired domain name for at least 29-30 days after the expiration.  so to get it back, someone would have to call/email the registry company and sort that out...

I've snatched expired domains before. It can take as long as 90 days after the expiry day before it gets "released". You DON'T call the registrar to "deal with it". The rules are the rules. The original owner needs to be given a chance to renew. You gotta wait till it's released and then it's first come first serve.
