Title: Help with a VP2
Post by: neil99a on August 20, 2005, 04:19:02 pm
I am putting together my first cab and in it is a Happs Vision Pro 2 29" monitor.  When I start Windows the start up screen displays but after that I get an error message on the monitor saying the signal is out of range.   Is there a setting on the monitor I have to change?  What screen resolution should I select in Windows?  I am definitely not a monitor guru and the instruction manual that came with the monitor is less than helpful.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated...

Thanks,
N

If it's the pc version (VGA Ready) use 640x480 60hz .

You can select this mode by selecting advanced, adapter, list all modes.

Then just select it.

Also make sure mame is set to use that resolution, and not autoselecting.

If it's a cga (15k) version, you need a arcadevga card.

Is the Happ part number 49-3149-VP2?  Just curious because the often-touted Happ monitor is the 49-6157-VP2 and I'm curious as to which one you're using.

From what I understand, the 49-6157-VP2 is a 27" SVGA 'PC/Arcade' Hybrid monitor and the 49-3149-VP2, as listed on Happ's site is a 29" Flat SVGA monitor.  I don't know if it's a 'hybrid' monitor like the 49-6157-VP2 is.

Project Arcade used the 49-6157-VP2 and I'm curious if the flat-screen version is comparable in 'arcade authenticity'.

Thanks.

Just a FYI, but I called Happ yesterday to try to order a 49-6157-VP2, and the gentlemen informed me that they are no longer stocking this monitor and have indeed switched over to the 49-3149-VP2.  The 49-3149-VP2 is still 27" (not 29, like I mentioned below) and the only difference between it and the '6157' is that the '3149' is a flat-screen model instead of a 'traditional' CRT.

I also noted that they are no longer selling the matching bezel for the 6157 and now only carry a 'flat-sceen' bezel that matches the 3149.  BTW - the 3149 is currently on special, so with me beginning the building of my own cabinet, I ordered the 3149.

Anyways - to your original question - dabone's advice is good.  I think that the Vision Pro will only run at 640x480 or 800x600, and both at 60hz. You could also boot into safe mode and re-select your driver to be a standard VGA card (Microsoft supplies a 'house' driver) and that would guarantee you a clean boot up.

I'm using the 6157 model.  I ordered it a couple of months back and just got around to installing it this weekend.  I am glad I didn't pooch the cutting of the bezel considering Happ only carries the flat screen version now.  Let me know how the 3149 works out for you....  I am tossing around the idea of starting a driving cab for my next project so I'll be on the market for another monitor pretty soon.

Thanks,
Neil
