I'm building a cocktail table and I want to install a coin door. I want a square style door. Midway? Williams? Maybe a pinball style door? I like the traditional black with the two, red, lighted 25 cent windows... My question is about the mechs. Do some coin doors have the mechs mounted sideways. ie. flush against the coin door? Not vertical like typical mechs. Is there a particular brand that does this? I thought I've seen it.
I just don't have room against the monitor for vertical style coin mechs. If there isn't such a beast then I'll just wire up the coin return to a microswitch so i can add credits but I would have liked to be able to use quarters as well if i felt like it.

Anyone at all with coin mech knowledge? I just need to know if mechs are ever mounted in any other orientation other than the typical vertical.
Any particular brand or is any door capable of an alternative orientation?

Are you looking for something like the pictures below? If so, these are from my SpyHunter (Bally/Midway). Sorry about the size. (3 x 300k)

I have a couple cabinets with midway coin doors and they have the mechs mounted flat to the door like what is pictured above with the spy hunter cab.

Thats EXACTLY like what I need. I only have about 3 or 4 inches between the coin door and the monitor. That style of coin door would work perfectly.
So I guess i need a bally/midway style door.
I guess as long as the quarter slot is sideways like the picture then the coin mech is mounted flush. Thanks so much. The look of the front isn't my favorite style but I'll sure live with it if i can have a working coin mech as well.
Thanks for the help guys.
p.s. roughly what size does the hole cutout need to be for that door? Around 12" square?

for coin mech info, go to:

about halfway down the page you'll see a link for COIN MECH HELP

10" H x 12" W. The total depth from the face is about 2.25"-2.5" not counting the metal flap that is sticking out. It appears these should be vertical and not horizontal and the PO bent them out to have access to the credit switches.

That would be absolutely perfect for me... now I just have to find one!
