Title: Wisconsin Tornado
Post by: missioncontrol on August 19, 2005, 05:40:38 pm
Wisconson Tornado (http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/19/wisconsin.tornado/index.html)

I've seen both Drew and ShapeD post so I guess their O.K.

how close was that to where you guys are???

and why do I think that last line in the CNN report is a quote from Drew:

Quote
"We were ... hiding behind the bar," he said. "We had beer, anyway."

witch tornado there were several  (18 possible).

The big one about 15 - 20 miles away.  south

one of the smaller ones 10 miles north.

The thing that bothers me is I've seen pictures of people outside looking at the larger one and those guys are fine. but the guy in his 50's who died was hiding in his basement when his chimney collapsed on him.

It was WAY closer to Shape than myself, but check this out....you guys won't get it without some sleuthing, but I was working in Pewaukee the next day and there was roofing crap and all kinds of debris lying about hither and yon that lead me to believe it came from that area!  :o

And I figure, since we had Hurricane Parties in NC when I lived there, we may as well improvise in WI and have Tornado Parties.  If we're gonna be wiped out, we may as well have a drink, yes?

possible 18 of them :o

who did you guys tick off?

Shmokes.  Duh! ::)

New news.

28 Confirmed touchdowns, and the big one was an F3.  I'm not sure how 18 can go to 28, but there you go

Est. damage in stoughton  21 million dollars.

And they are finding peoples mail from Stoughton in Milwaukee. about 80 miles.

Even though where the tornados were located, my friend said his parents in Franklin (suburb of Milwaukee) has some drywall and insulation from it in their yard.  I suppose the storm could carry it that far...

Several years ago we had a bad one in Tulsa. A semi truck landed down the street from where I was living at the time. The actual tornado touched down 15 miles away. Yep, stuff can stay airborne for a long time.

I hear Wisconsin police are now setting up search patterns to stop random train riders and search their possessions for tornado making materials.

I'm in Sheboygan (East side of WI, 60mil North of Milwaukee)
and 30 mi south of us, in Saukville, my boss said someone there
found a letter that traveled over 60+ miles in that storm.

I've been hearing stuff like that here in oshkosh, but mainly just talk that someone's friend or family member has debris somewhere a little more south of oshkosh :)

Franklin is almost a straight shot in the exact direction the path was said to be taking.

I think not a whole lotta folks know or remember he's from here.  We've actually got a good chunk of WI folks here, but not a lot of 'em like to write of their love for bacon, so..... ;)

Hey, speaking of Oshkosh B'Gosh, were they dropping THAT line, or Carter's....not that anyone would really know or care, but I need a pair of big boy conductor's bibs....for....um....a.....ah....FRIEND, yeah!  That's the ticket!

I was up Nort' der at my parent's cottage when a water spout started in the middle of the lake and headed our way.  I thought sure that was the end of the line for young Drew, but it turned and wiped out the house at the turn in the road to our house.  We were stuck for 2 days with no electricity and couldn't leave, cuz my dad didn't think we should go 4-wheelin' in a station wagon
