Title: Mame Plugins
Post by: JuddWack on January 03, 2003, 05:54:54 pm
As I said earlier a lot of ppl are going to be using this cabinet besides me.  I am going to have 2 controllers but a lot of the games I like are the ones which are up to 4 players at a time, TMNT games, X-men, etc.  WHen Im playing on my computer I noticed that you can't select characters unless you change the mame settings.  are there any type of plugins that let you select characters for these games?

Play the 2-player revisions of these games.... they allow you to select characters.  :)

Yeah, if you remember simpsons and tmnt 4 player cabinets, you couldn't select the character from a menu, you just put a coin in the correct spot.

What's wrong with changing the Mame settings?  You usually have to remap some button or change spinner sensitivity etc anyway.  That's pretty dang lazy...  :-\

Sounds like you need to map a button for each coin slot.

I'm guessing you have no idea what we are talking about 1up.....  You see on the old tmnt and similar 4-player cabinets, each character had a dedicated joystick, button set, and coin slot.  To play leonardo you had to use the player 1 position, raphael 2 player ect....

Well this is fine if you have a 4 player panel, but if you don't then mikey and donnie are always unselectable.

Remapping the keys in this case you be time-consuming and retarded as every time you decided you wanted to use a different character you would have to remap the joystick inputs, coin input and two button inputs. Not to use your method, would not be considered lazy, but smart.  Our solution is the only one worth doing, but as pj would say "Thanks for Playing! :D"

not really

map player 1 & 2 controls as the same... but just map a different button for their coin and start...

map player 3 & 4 controls to the second joystick (normally player 2) etc etc..

so you have all the players covered... only problem is if you want to play the first or last two characters at the same time..

now.. i'm not postive on this fact... will it let you assign two seperate items to the same key?  If not.. then it should ;)
