I was just in contact with Starburst Coin, and was given a quote on a WG D9200 that I figure to be reeeally high, especially since it only covers shipping to their location in Montreal (I live in Ottawa, would be a 2-hour drive to pick it up). Especially bad considering my new car is too small for the monitor. Pick-up is probably not an option.
For those of you with a D9200 here in Canada, how did you get your monitor, and if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay?
To be honest, I think that the quote I got ($877) is higher than if I ordered from WG directly and paid the border fees myself.

Don't underestimate border fees. You'll pay taxes, brokerage fee, customs fee and shipping.
What size monitor is this? Must be huge.
I have an option for you... contact a distributor in Ottawa.

It's the 27" D9200. Retails for $470 USD on the WG website.
I've been caught on all the border fees, and they're definately annoying. More than likely if I ordered from WG directly I'd pay close to that quote, but that would also be delivered to my door. the quote from Starburst didn't factor in shipping from Montreal to Ottawa.
I haven't had any luck finding a distributor in Ottawa. As far as I can tell, perhaps Starburst are the only distributer for WG monitors in Canada?
Those of you who live near Wells Gardner, consider yourselves lucky. ;)

I think you might be right. You'll probably save about $100cdn by ordering direct.

Interesting .. almost exactly the same price in Australian dollars from the Oz distributor !!
I don't feel quite so ripped now :)
good luck with it.

Just to follow up:
I've just placed my order with WG directly. It seems I can shave off about $100 CAD by ordering direct, despite the border fees (duty, brokerage, etc).
Just a heads up for others who are taking the same route I am.

I ordered the D9200 this past April direct from WG. I live in Vancouver and paid a total of 77.98 CDN to get it across the border, no duty or brokerage fees, just GST & PST. However I did go to customs myself to pick it up.
I took a photo of my empty cabinet shell to show the customs lady and explained to her how I couldn't get this monitor here in Canada so she didn't bother hitting me with any duty fees.
WG charged me $133 US for shipping so the total US price for me with shipping was $588.90.
Good choice on the monitor by the way, you're going to love it.

Just an update to this:
I received my monitor today, and just like Stoked, I paid $76 to get it across. the customs officer I chatted with was really nice. We discussed what I was using it for, and I slipped in that I couldn't get this monitor in Canada. I don't think he even considered duty in the first place.
Word of caution to those who plan on a D9200 but don't have it yet.... They ARE heavy. Very very very heavy... Don't be a putz like me and try to haul it down the basement stairs yourself... I have a feeling my body will hate me for that tomorrow.

Hi there,
Just out of curiousity...where did you pick the monitor up - at the border or was it home delivered?
Also, what was your total cost if you don't mind me asking:
($470 + $130 shipping + $76 GST = $676 US total)?
I'm interested as I picked up a D9200 from Starburst last August while on vacation because, at the time, I calculated that it was cheaper than ordering directly from WG due to the added shipping to my location (east coast). If I've come close on your total cost then the next time around it may indeed be cheaper to order directly (that was a fast delivery by the way - 7 days!).
Cheers,
Breaker.

It was home delivered, but I had to go to the airport and sign the item through customs. I could've picked it up there and driven it home, but i don't have a large enough car to fit the box, so I had it delivered. The good news is, the $133 shipping included freight to my door. So once cleared through customs, I had no other expenses for shipping. Obviously there was no brokerage fee as I brokered it myself.
In total I think I paid around $810 CAD (after conversion), but I live in Ottawa, I'm not sure if shipping would end up costing more where you live.
