Title: Is there an easy way to use screencaps to make sideart?
Post by: Rook3 on August 17, 2005, 09:13:24 pm
Is there an easy way to use screen captures from DVD to make marquee/sideart images?

I'm guessing that when you scale the image, it will pixelate all to heck. DVD is only 720x480 or so, and any attempt I've made at getting screen caps hasn't been the greatest.

I finally decided on the theme of my Mame cab, but now I can't find appropriate
graphics. :(

Any ideas?

DVD res = 720x480

Best case: sideart height = 54", 720pixels/54" = 13.33 dpi.

Any questions?

So there's no way it will work. That's kind of what I figured.

Bummer.

I'm not sure if there is a way to keep the image clarity without vectorizing. I should write a program that auto vectorizes things to 100% photo quality....But I'm not going to :)
As far as I know you are going to need to vectorize it.

What is your theme going to be?

Ideally, I was going to call it "Starcade SG-1"
And it would be a Stargate TV show theme. :)

I wanted to use photo repros for the side art, photo elements for the marquee and CP.

But, the heavy pixelation when blown up is making it less than a stellar project.

I may try to find some publicity stills and scan those in at high resolution. It might work. Maybe.
