Title: Who wants Suzo Inductive (P360 competitor) joysticks ? [NL] Intl. shipping
Post by: Level42 on August 17, 2005, 02:32:41 am
There's been some discussion elsewhere on this forum about these somewhat forgotten joysticks:

Suzo has a joystick that, like the Happ P360, doesn't have microswitches or leafs. Where the P360 works with optical technology, the Suzo uses inductive technology.
Bottomline is that they should offer a great feel of gameplay, without clicking noise and no mechanical wear. And (as I hope) with the typical short and precise Suzo throw and travel.

They are 4-8 way switchable and can replace any joystick without a problem and of course can be used in all cabinets, as long as you supply it with +5V.

I have NOT yet played one so I cannot tell any experiences with it, but if we can get some number of people interested in buying these, I can get a better price on them. Expect them at a much better price then the Regular P360 price.

Remember I have to ship from Europe.

So please let me know if you are interested and how many you would like.

The ball top is 32 mm. There is a very limited number of 38 mm ball tops available.

Here's what Suzo says about them:

The Universal Inductive Conductor
This is a full electronic joystick and works according to the inductive system. No contacts, no micro switches, only a PCB inside. Joystick is universal 4 and 8 way and can be adjusted by potentiometer.

The Universal Inductive Control is operating at a minimum of 4,75 VDC and a maximum of 5,25VDC.

Power consumption: max. 50mA.

Contact angles adjustable: 4 and 8 way directions.

Gee I expected at least a little more interest in these.....

OK, so I will get a couple of them and test them and let you know, maybe then I can convince you guys  ;D

And else, I might be one of the rare users of maybe the best arcade stick in the world, and I will crush all of you with my scores ;D HAHAHAHA

...uhm....let's order a couple :)

O by the way, if anyone wants anything else from Suzo (check out their catalogue at www.suzo.com) let me know.....

I might be interested in getting a couple just to play around with. This is entirely dependant on price including shipping to the US. I don't need them at all, but they sound interesting enough to try.

Are they (or can they be) analog?

As far as I know: no. I asked my sales rep about the contacts it uses, and if it can replace any standard joystick, she consulted the technical dept. and they replied that it can replace any standard joystick, as long as you supply the 5V power.

I also have some queries about them, like how will 4-8 way switching work and what effect the potettiometer will have.

At least it should be fun to discover all this :)

I will report my findings ASAP.

Didn't either the Dreamcast or the N64 use inductive sticks as the analog stick? Seems like this would be great for hacking to that type of controller.

Or did I dream that?

Time to wake up  ;D

Sorry, but those used Hall-effect joysticks.  And that's a bit different. Although not much.... :)

However, indeed inductive technology should put out an analogue value...so that might open the door to some serious hacking....

Can you give me the price of the standard series 500 sticks (red 38mm handle, 4.8mm terminals, ref: 29-0511-32) if ordered directly from Suzo.

Thanks

Do you know whether Suzo sells black vinyl for covering control panels? I don't see it listed in their catalogue, but you never know.

I also have some queries about them, like how will 4-8 way switching work and what effect the potettiometer will have.

From the little I know of the stick, sounds like the pot changes the "change distance" (ie: the distance moved from center before the induction reads as "closed").  A variable throw; that's pretty cool.

Interested in the review, but I don't need to buy myself, sorry.
