Those are the loud and clicky kind found on "japanese" cabinets.
-
They appear to be switchable. Are they?
-
Sort of. You have to loosen those screws (looks like there are 2) and then you rotate the restrictor and then re-tighten the screws.
Most of those cheap chinese joysticks come with a restrictor you can move for 2-4-8 way, but always with a screw to loosen/tighten.

I tried to put them in four way mode, but couldn't really figure it out. At least i couldn't get a daimond shape by just rotating the plastic disc. I didn't try very long or actually use them to play yet though.

You can also replace the microswitchs in these with cherries... But then you've removed the price savings.
they probably aren't bad if they are your only joystick. When you can't compare, you don't notice that they are all that bad. (btw, ultimates ARE good... until you get a few comps :) )

They look like the coinexpress $2 joys. I have a pair and while they are usuable, they are crap.
-
I think they stink. They are extremely loose and cheap feeling. They do work however. Can't say I ever had a problem with a missed direction or anything. I just have a problem with feel and build quality. If a child ever decided to hang off it, I'm sure that'll mess it up where as a better joy wouldn't.

You can buy good joysticks from Ponyboy for similar money.
