My quest continues ...
Have the PC and monitor. Bought the cabinet today. Some bowling game that looks like it use to be a fighter cabinet of some sort.
Whatever.
The control panel on it is ... big. I'm going to replace it with a new piece of wood cut to the same size as the old one so I can get a fresh start.
So .. I have all sorts of real estate (13" x 35"). So PLENTY of room for 2 joysticks, 12 buttons, trackball, etc..
My question is -- it seems that I can't find a conclusive answer on using combo 4/8 way joysticks. They seem like they do 8 way good but 4 way bad (and I DO NOT want to hear my wife complaining about Ms. Pac Man). So, I figure, I have the space ... I'll just add a dedicated 4 way joystick.
Pure genius! ;)
However .. can anybody think of 2 player games that would require 2 dedicated 4 way joysticks or can I use just 1?
Finally -- anybody using the J-Stik in 4 way mode for games like pacman and galaga? Does it work pretty good for you?

How much space have you got?
2 player Karate Champ needs FOUR 4-way sticks, 2 per player.

Yup, I have the original cabinet with that game. Nobody plays it :(

Crazy Climber?

:D
What I actually meant was ... are there games where 2 people will be playing at the same time with 4 way joysticks?
So, I was going to have 2 8-way joysticks but only wanted to put 1 4-way joystick on for certain games. For example, Galaga and PacMan won't have 2 people playing simultaneously. Are there 4-way joystick games that people DO play simultaneously?
And I used to LOVE Kung Fu Fighter.

If you have room I would go with a dedicated 4way.

Crazy Climber?
Crazy Climber uses two 8-ways.

Let's see..
Joust, Tetris, Mario Brothers and Bubble Bobble are two player simultaneous games that will play very well on 4 way joysticks. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that stand out for me at the moment.
-88mph
But those games are actually 2-way games and they will play perfectly fine on 8 way joysticks because there is never a need to up or down.

Ha...nice. I would love to get a classic cabinet...saw a Ms Pac Man going for 1200 on Ebay. I looked in my wallet but I only had a couple 10's... :(

I think he's asking if he needs two 4-way sticks for anything. Like if Donkey Kong was simultaneous two-player.
I can't think of anything off the top of my head except for Karate Champ.

the bomberman games are 4 way arent they? and they're four player... Im pretty sure im going to make a 'classic' CP that will have two 4 ways.

I know Joust uses 2-way joysticks, but I kind of categorize 2-way joystick games with 4-way because I've never had problems using a 4-way joystick for 2-way joystick games, and Joust is 2 player simultaneous.

There are multiplayer 4-way simultaneous games, however almost all of them are in the black and white era. Only big exception I can think of is Atari Tetris, which is the worst version of Tetris ever made and can be skipped.
