This is insane, higher price than when you order a brand new one (new version) from Ultimarc.....
I thought that there were actualy some more problems with the old (7000 based) version ? This guy is claiming the opposite

Plenty of liars and ___holes on ebay. And morons who pay more than things are worth! There was an auction that ended on Saturday for a "never used" newer ArcadeVGA, and the ending price was like $102! It included the cable, but together they only cost $95 new! Idiots!
Anyway if people can comment on the new/old versions of ArcadeVGA, I'd like to know what the differences are.

The new one is based on a newer 9000series Radeon, the older one was based on a 7000series Radeon. Therefore the new card is better for 3d-accelerated stuff...for just MAME it should be roughly the same.
Also, the new card has more 60hz modes, which some people prefer using with MAME. I have the original AVGA, but I would say the new card is certainly better.

It would be sweet if Andy could give a reply.

Yea, the newer cards are based on a more powerful 3d card. If you ever want to run 3d PC games on your cabinet (Virtua Tennis or Tiger Woods golf come to mind) then the newer cards will give much better performance.

Didn't the old ones have two VGA-out ports, or something?

I know about the feature differences like more powerful 3D etc, I was wondering more about stability. If any users had reported more or less stability problems with either one.
-
OK I'll give my opinion on them, I have 3 mame cabinets, with 2 running the ArcadeVGA cards one with the new version and the other witht he old version. Both setups are exactly the same, including operating systems. I don't play any 3D games on my setups, only old style arcade games. I have found that the old version of the card is much better suited for running these type games. It is easier to install and is more reliable. I had to return 2 of the new cards under warranty, both died within a week >:( I tend to only play the cabinet with the old card version in it and let friends/visitors play the other one as I think that graphic's and colours are slightly more accurate. I've even tried switching the setups around in the cabinets and it has made no diference.

The new card is better in several respects, not least that it handles overlay and MPEG correctly. There should not be any difference in the colours but the voltage outputs on the new card are slightly higher. ATI cards have historically output unusually low level RGB signals and they upped the level on the later chipsets. This might mean comparing like-for-like without adjusting the monitor might look different.
As has been mentioned the later chipset is generally faster. Memory speed is faster on the later card as well.
I am interested in the post above because I can only recall ever receiving one ArcadeVGA card back which has failed in use, that is since the card was launched. So I am slightly mystified about this.

Also, if you run Daphne, the newer card is the way to go. On the older version, hardware excelleration must be disabled for daphne to work.
The newer chipset does not have this problem in daphne.
This information is not firsthand, but from the daphne forums.

I think this is what Andy meant by 'handles overlay and MPEG correctly'.

Just so you all know i am the one who bought this card on ebay, and NO i am not a "moron who payed more then for a new card." I had expressly wanted this card as i wanted the 2 VGA outputs, as i am trying a new setup. If you ask Andy, I was going to buy a new card from him on my next order, but found the older card instead. I DID NOT want nor need the cable so it is no big deal to me. I am currently running an ARCADE VGA card in 1 cab and i LOVE IT, and wanted this card for my cocktail cab, and to experiment with, i have found a guy to build me a VGA to sync green adapter that i want to play with, and i NEEDED the 2 VGA outs so while i "tweak" the Sync green cable, i can still have acess to all the functions i need via the other PC out on the card. I just wanted you all to understand that i KNOW i can buy a "new model" from Andy for $89.99+shipping, however i was not sure i could buy the 2 output card from him still and this card was there for the taking. Also the guy i bought it from has assured me he will return my money if there is anything wrong with it, and i know there are liars and cheats on ebay, but I chose to buy this card, and am not uniformed like some other buyers.
Just thought i would set the record straight

It was a case of third time lucky. The first card lasted about 2 days before dying completly and the second one had issues upon arrival, had snow falling across the screen. I think that the second one must of been damaged in the post, although the packaging looked fine. In case your wondering about incorrect drivers etc, the third card was just plug and play and continues to work fine.
