Title: Upgrading DVD-ROM Firmware
Post by: SirPeale on August 14, 2005, 07:35:25 pm
I have a Go-Video DVD player.  In it is a Fuss Audio DVD ROM, model DV9929B.  Anyone know where I could find a firmware upgrade for it?  Plays everything under the moon, *except* DVD-R.  I'd really like it to do that.

Apologies for changing the subject Peale, I have a question for you, are you not responable for the latest version of ArcadeOS ???

If so could you please check my thread on betabrite signs working in arcadeos (which will require modifying ArcadeOS to support 7E1)

thanks, and sorry for the interruption

Since we are hijacking the thread.....
I took a quick look at the arcadeOS code and it does not looks to be hard coded to 8n1.

It looks like it will use what ever mode the COM device is set to.

Have you tried using the mode command

http://www.computerhope.com/modehlp.htm#01

Something like
MODE COM1:9600,E,7,1,P

I really, really appreciate your help with the matter.

YES I actually have done much much research and playing around. You are right in that by using the command

MODE COM1:4800,E,7,1

The settings are correctly set for access from DOS

Matter of fact by using the command: TYPE filename.txt >COM1

I am able to send information to the  sign (Assuming I use correct headers & footers) and it works marvelously, that is why I could not understand WHY when running ArcadeOS it refused to communicate with sign, I started theorizing it had to be messing with the port settings

And that is when I ran into following qudote inside AOS_MAN.DOC

Note: Any Serial Device must be configured for 8 data-bits, 1 start-bit, 1  stop-bit and no parity. BAUD rate is configured in the arcadeos.cfg file.

The fact that After exiting ArcadeOS I loose the ability to communicate with the sign seems to confirm this statement, after issuing my MODE COM1:4800,E,7,1 command it works correctly again.

I went as far as using the SHELL option from within ArcadeOS and issuing the command from there but seems to have no effect on the operation of the program.

Please echeck out my webpage at:

www.780tech.com/betabrite

After 3 days of research and hard persistance I got it working beautifully inside of MAMEWAH mostly to ensure it could be done and help another user MCcoy whom has a betabrite and uses mamewah.

I insist however on using ArcadeOS even if I have to learn C (which I'd really really rather not do)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Kindest Regards.

Tony

I need to do this too... just bought a new Norcent player because it plays DivX 5 out of the box, and then the next week the people who (ahem) distribute the show I download each week started using DivX 6.

Certified for up to DivX 5, and DivX 6 is out now, which is what is hampering me currently.  Much DivX stuff that was 5 is now being distributed in 6.

If you have 50 bucks to throw away, id suggest just going and picking up the Philips Divx/DVD player.. it plays EVERYTHING in every format.. its rather nice :)

That Phillips player SOAPboy's talking about was on Phillips outlet site a few days ago for $36.

edit: It's still there.  Click. (http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/productdetail.do?productguid=419077EAEF11009F00000000828BD4724090E1EAB7A30401E1000000828BD443&productarea=419077EAEF11009F00000000828BD472&scenario=catalog&shop=OUTLET)
