Plane Being Struck by a Lightning Flash

The images below show an aircraft being affected by a lightning flash. To the authors knowledge, nobody on the plane was injured. It is unknown if the aircraft experienced any damage. According to the scientist who acquired this imagery, the airplane itself triggered the lightning discharge.

I would love to get struck by lightning for the ultimate bragging rights. I suppose getting struck by lightning in a plane would be ok....

Well that might last for a while, but sooner or later you'll meet someone who was shot in the head with a spear gun while being maulled by a shark, but somehow got away and swam to shore, where he had to eat his own severed leg to survive while stranded on a desert island.

Why does the plane keep backing up only be struck by lightning over and over? The pilot must be insane! ;D

Airplanes are designed to handle lightning strikes. Commercial airliners average one lightning strike per year.

They are equipped with "Static Wicks" that help dissipate any built up static charge.

The lightning must have caused a space-time flux and are now caught in the rift.  Luckily they don't have a gremlin on the wing.
