Title: The Age Of Stuff.
Post by: Acids on August 14, 2005, 04:22:07 am
I find it amazing how quickly this arcade stuff we have ages.
We talk about the games we love like we were playing them just yesterday at the old arcade. ( granted Some of us are )
I'm so happy i had the chance to play all the greats when then were considered Cutting edge.
It was "Cool" and no-one is gonna take that memory away from me.

I keep reading about all the restoration projects that are on the go and are just amazed that all this stuff was basically trashed.  why does the public just forget about something so quickly.

Whats really sad, is seeing some of these prefab home arcade kits that sell Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter-style cabs and call them "retro cabs". WTF!? :-\ :o

I am guilty of it to some degree. About 2 years ago (before discovering BYOAC), I had a clean up and threw away about 50 original PC (dos & windows 3.1) games from the early 90's. Everything had been stored on a bookshelf and was in excellent condition. I knew from looking around at the time they were of little value when I trashed them.

I wish I had the vision to know I (and others) would appreciate them more at a later stage.  :(

To a degree, I wish I still kept my IBM PC jr. just for the few cartridge games it had. No disk drive, no floppy. Just boot you software from a cart the size of a deck of playing cards.....

I still have my original Lemmings on 3.5" diskette. It's only good in DOS, but that game was really fun. Don't plan on tossing it any time soon.

I have this one game that I really like, but I can't even find a PC on which it will work anymore.

Me too, Killing Time by 3Do.  The only first person shooter I've ever enjoyed.

I used to love setting the Lemmings to self-destruct... That game rocks!

I have that same game (with the original manual).  I tend to hoard stuff so I've held onto almost every game/system that I've ever owned.
