Title: GameEx Questions
Post by: RTSDaddy2 on August 14, 2005, 01:01:00 am
I did my research, but if this is there, didn't find it.

Downloaded GameEx tonight - so far a much easier to set up front end than others I've tried...looks better on our TV too.  Couple questions though...

1) I can hear the n64 games running but am getting no video display, even though the path for both rom and emulator are correct.  What do I have set wrong?  I created a folder for PJ64 rather than letting windows do it...so it's not in the program files.  Could that be it?

2.) How do I create / can I create my own theme for it?

That's all for now...as always appreciate the help!  Late here so I'm off to bed...perhaps a clear head tomorrow will help finish / fix the problems.

I'm still curious about creating my own theme for GameEx, as well as choosing my own screen saver, but...well, as stated last night, some sleep lent itself to solving my problem very well.

Upon reading the documentation, I thought I'd discovered my problem...there is a setting for all other emulators in which you may turn the desktop "on" or "off" as it starts.  When I turned the desktop to "on" I finally had my picture!

However, I wasn't thrilled with having to move to full screen every time manually...and that's when I discovered that PJ64 has a setting that, when checked, allows the rom to start full screen.  Once that box was checked, I went back and set the front end to "No" on the desktop setting....and I still have my picture!!  YAY!!!

A shoutout to the creator of this front end.  It works awesomely - so far - with the IPAC set I'm using right now. No need to change / adjust anything...just installed the program and ran it!

Course, my wife isn't going to be hjappy with it until I get the dragon wallpaper up as it's background.   ;D

I chose GameEx for the same similar reasons.  Using on a TV with low resolution and ease of setup.  So far it's been great and my kids seem to have no problems selecting games from the menus.

FYI:  I tried Mamewah and I really liked many of the features however my screen runs at 640x432 resolution and I gave up on trying to get a good layout working properly with that screen.  Probally my fault for not sticking with it.

I thing the author of GameEx doing some good work.  I am also glad to have so many great choices to begin with.

I've found that when setting up a new emulator for GameEx (and it probably applies to the other FEs as well) it's a good idea to run the emulator at least once manually from the windows command prompt.

It nice to see other folks usiing Tom's awesome frontend. Just a reminder, we do have a forum up for all the GameEx related questions here: http://www.GameEx.info. This includes help with setting up individual emulators and such.

My favorite front end. The features he adds are so great, considering he updates it on average about once a week.

There's no denying it's a heck of a find.  Myself, I didn't / haven't had any problems with the jukebox finding songs...just trouble finding the jukebox.

I hope to head back over to the link and check out how to do one's own themes.  It is a VERY impressive front end, no offense to Min and the folks at MAMEWAH intended.  :)
