Title: Castor Wheel Size
Post by: jcrouse on August 13, 2005, 02:04:03 pm
What size castors are you people using on your upright cabinets? Home depot had many choices and I'm not sure which ones to go with. Of course, they are load rated but I'm looking for wheel size. Th heavy duys ones are very large (tall). Obviously the large the weel the better it will roll.

Thanks,
John

The castors on my cab measured 3". (That is from the wheel edge to the base that is secured to your cab)

But more importantly was the weight rating.  Each of the wheels was rated for 100 lbs.
(4 wheels = 400 lbs)

This weight bearing should suffice for most cabs.

BTW, you should read this thread too:

I used 50mm (2") and recessed the bottom panel of the cabinet so they didn't stick out too much, probably 20mm and found it rolls OK but is not overly responsive so when I'm caning the controls it doesn't move around too much.  I also used the locking type on the front for this reason but due to the weight of the cabinet, I probably didn't need to do this as it don't move at all, the Castor's seem to be handling the weight of the cabinet fine.

You can see mine in a pic in that thread. I think they are about 5". They are probably a bit OTT load wise but I managed to get all four of eBay for the price of one at my local hardware outlet.
