Removing the Recycle Bin
To remove Recycle Bin from the desktop:
go to start
then run
type REGEDIT.
Find NAMESPACE key in left pane (HKEY_Local_Machine \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Explorer \ Desktop \ Namespace)
Expand NAMESPACE (click '+' box)
Delete the value RECYCLE BIN in right pane
thats it!

Tweak UI can do the same thing for Win 98, ME and XP for those who dont want to hack the registry.

I would never consider this a hack, as nothing in the original program code has changed.
More a mod... Tweakui is a great program for those who dont like changing things manually.

............or, if you're using WinXP, you could just rightclick on the desktop -> "Arainge Icons By" -> Uncheck "Show Desktop Icons"
Problem solved.

There is also a reghack you can run that will give you an option to show or hide the recycle bin on the desktop in Folder Options, View.
I don't have it on me, but can get it if anyone is interested.
