Title: Help finding a song/group.
Post by: Thenasty on August 12, 2005, 12:28:58 am
Around 84-85 when Friday night videos plays at midnight, I saw this music video with a 57 Chevy car and of course girls wanted to ride in and the car took off, this part was the ending of the music video. The song is like Metal and some of the lyrics I remember were:

"I got a 57 chevy, 454, 4 on  floor".

And thats all I remember. I thought it might have been Y&T (Summertime girls) but no. Hope someone came across this group and can shed some light. I tried searching for the lyrics itself on some sites but none came up. Been bugging me for the longest time.
TIA

The song is from Y&T's "In Rock We Trust" album, the song is titled "All American Boy".

Not VH, if it was, I'll slap myself silly. The lead singer did not look like Diamond David Lee Roth.

All I can say, is that I don't think the group hit it big. Its like Y&T, Dokken, Zebra that I say really no one knew about. Almost like a one hit wonder for me.

I love most of the David Lee Roth solo stuff, off the wall yet so entertaining.

Another site that has Y&T downloads.  It's a guitar tabs site, but he has several live performances on mp3 for download, linked to the official band site, so I'm assuming legal downloads.

http://home.comcast.net/~bjaramil/ynt.htm

Just right click the song title you want and save as...
at the right side of the page.  Left side are guitar tablature.

I've got a copy of the LP.  But I don't know if it was ever rereleased stateside on CD.  That is why you're having trouble finding it.  The only CD for that album that I've seen were Japanese imports.  The band was huge in Japan for some reason, and all thier cd's are available in Japanese import versions.  Most are oop in the US, exception being a couple of greatest hits albums.  I only know so much of the band because they were a local band that made it big.  We used to see them in local venues at extremely reasonable rates and they were a great party band.  They still play locally, and I see them every now and then.

Now I feel like an idiot :-[  The song is on the "Down For The Count" album.  Lucky for you this album is easier to find.  I dug out my old vinyl, and there it was.  I actually have two copies of  the album, so if you still have a turntable I'll send you  a copy.

thanks Geo, but I do't have a turntable. Anyways, I tried limewire again and some1, yes just one soul had it up and I grab it ASAP.
The song now resides in my HD as an MP3  ;D
Been playing the song all day and watching the video too. Wondering who that midget was at the end, whne he hop on the car and gave a smile on camera ?
That video was perfect. It was all fun, and thats the one reason I remember it.
"All American Boy" will be added to my Cabinet as a background music while in the MENU selection.

I called that song a one hit wonder since I did not know for sure what group sang it. Now, I can add it to the rest of Y&T hits like Mean Streak, Keep on Running, Summertime Gilrs etc....There was so many songs on limewire that I end up DLing a total of 20 Y&T songs  ;D
