Howdy, I ordered a few things from Oscar controls about 2 months ago, and stored them until I finally finished summer school and could work on my MAME cab.
That day finally arrived and this past week I have been cranking out the most amazing thing I have ever made with my own hands!! I finished the cab and was wiring my CP when I realized I didn't quite get what I thought I had from Oscar controls. I ordered the USB connector and the harness that was supposed to connect to that USB board.
Upon opening, I realized I have the USB board, and I have the harness, but only one end of the harness is wired, the rest is just cut wire with nothing on the ends. So, I need help figuring out what to do. Oscar controls is closed, or I would ask them if I:
a) got a part I wasn't supposed to
b) was supposed to wire it myself
c) ordered the wrong thing
I have just taken it upon myself to wire it up if I have the right parts, but I need to know what to wire to. There are 7 wires that come out of the harness that attaches to the trackball, and there are 8 spots on the USB board, 2 sets of 3 and 1 set of 2. Best I can understand, one set of 3 controls X and the other controls Y, with the 7th wire is a ground wire and able to be connected to either of the pins on the 2 pin set.
Is this right?
If so, does anyone have any idea what goes where on the 3 pin sets? There are duplicates of red, green, and white wires, so I am guessing those 3 colors make up a X or Y set. Which pin of the 3 is which color?
Any help you could provide me would be most appreciated.
Thanks again for all you guys do on this board, it has been infinitely helpful in conjunction with saints book as I have worked on this project.
James
PS I can post pics tomorrow at work if need be.

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you've got there, but I think there is a trackball pinout diagram on oscarcontrols.com that might tell you which wire goes to which pin on your trackball.
Hold while I find a link....
Does this help:

This page is a set of instructions for using both a mouse and a spinner with the same interface, so it's not exactly what you want, but it DOES show an oscar mouse-hack and some wiring in the pictures that are lower on the page... so maybe it'll help you out:

Including a pic of the "USB mouse interface" with some wiring info

Awesome, I just went to Oscarscontrols.com and saw it was down. Didn't even think to try the stuff past their home page. Thanks a ton!
