Title: Has anyone seen a 25th anniversary Pac-Man yet?
Post by: Arcade82 on August 10, 2005, 08:40:49 pm
http://www.namcoarcade.com/nai_gamedisplay.asp?gam=PAC25

like that?

is there anything different from the reunion one other than Pac-Man being playable without a code?

or is it still an expensive collector's item with cheap quality lol

If I had a career-job (which I will in a few years) I'd probably buy one just because it's like an official arcade machine/collector's item.. although I'm not sure whether I'd get this one or the reunion one.. the art is cooler

That cabaret version stinks ! Not even orange T-molding !
Nothing beats the original, i'd say :)

no but why would they put in Galaga in there?! what does it have to do with pac man? why don't they just put in pac man jr instead then it would be all pacman!

because then arcade owners would only make 50% of what they would have

that and it's basically the same exact thing as the reunion cab

I think they should have done all the pacmans (minus professor) in one and people would like it.

Then have a galaxian, galaga, ect cab next if they wanted.

but the games don't really go together.  Especially with 100% pacman art.

All I've gotta say is, fire up Illustrator to get that sideart, marquee and CPO!

I think NAMCO is milking this product. They have re-union which includes all three games but PACMAN must be enabled secrectly by the user with some joystick manuevers, then NAMCO thought to put Pacman along with the Menu so no secrets moves, change the cabinet looks. Whats next, NAMCO gonna seperate this games and come up with all three pacs (Pacman, Ms.Pac, Jr.Pac) and another cabinet that would have Galaga, Galaga88, Galaga 3.

So bottom line is, if you got the re-union, the you want the 25th, you actually paid the games that you already have twice, then again if they do make the PAC Family re-union and Galaga family, you will pay again for the repeated games.

The operators probably did not even got there money back on the re-union and I doubt that the operators will buy the 25th.

If you go to an auction the Pacs and Galagas always go for the most money.  Combining the games in one cabinet draws more money for operators.  Heck I'd rather have all three rather than just one.  For the price they charge, I think they should put every vertical 4 way with one button on there.  That'd make it appealing to me.  But then again I come from here  ;)

Oh man.. that artwork is.. F U G L Y !!!  What a train wreck it is.  "Busy" doesn't even do it justice.  Especially on the side - two utterly different and conflicting versions of Pac-man, right next to each other?  Thumbs DOWN on that one!  No blue speckle, either.  Only parts I like are the Pac-swipe including the Galaga screen on the kickplate (clever), and a black marquee isn't a terrible thing.  Guess I'm being snobbish now that I own the real thing, but I'd take my damaged recovered original artwork any day over that.

The side-art appears to be identical to the original except it has that big 25th thing smack dab in the middle. It looks like they're trying to cove up the original artwork... wierd...

Nah, not close to identical.  Here:

The sideart is extrememly similar to the old one... they just moved the ghosts farther apart and put the 25th anniversary seal in the middle.....

Post by: Thenasty on August 11, 2005, 01:30:06 pm
the sideart, is it the same on the other side ? I only seen pics thats on the left side but not the right side. The re-union has Ms.pac on left and galaga on right.

Hate to be anal about it, but:

- Ghost moved to top left
- Pac (original) moved to lower right
- Top Pac-Man logo removed
- Blue removed from center swipe
- Black removed from most of the maze
- Size of maze, pac and monsters are all smaller
- Trademark(s) moved/added to bottom
- Overall colors darkened, safety yellow much more orange
- No blue speckle (the original pic I linked to doesn't have it either - people seem to forget/ignore this part of the original art for some reason)

And of course, the completely non-classic current Namco Pac logo, smacked down in the center of it all.

I mean, if you like the new art, that's fine.

Ok if we really wanna go down this route, let's take your points one at a time

- Ghost moved - movement does not CHANGE art... thus they are identical
- Pac man moved - same as above
- Top Logo removed - yes.. however the actual "Pac Man" text is EXTREMELY similar to the original, if not the same.... again, movement does not change art.
- Blue removed - you're just wrong there... the blue is still there, although its a bit subdued compared to the original.
- Black removed - yup, no argument there
- Size is smaller - agreed but this is super nitpicky.. its still the same art.
- Trademark - welcome to the 2000's enjoy your stay.
- New yellow - The newer pac yellow in my experience is not nearly as orange as that picture, but yes it is slightly different.
- Blue Speckle - I'll take your word on that cuz I don't remember it.

It's obviously not IDENTICAL... if you want that, get a Pac.  It's meant to celebrate the 25th anniversary, and thus they use the old art, with a few new tweaks.  Identical NO.... REALLY REALLY similar... yeah.

Gold Jacket , Green Jacket  --- Who Gives A ****!  ;D

Allow me to steal that line from a classic comedy! Since we're discussing colors, it's the first thing popped in my head.

I'm almost positive it's the same joystick as the mspac/galaga reunion stick or the one that they put in that cabinet

"But it's identical" - as if the layout of the artwork doesn't matter.  God how asinine.

Don't yell at me just because you're not bright enough to come up with a decent analogy.

An analogy isn't even required.  Anyone with half a brain cell knows that if you move parts of the artwork all over the place and change their sizes and colors, it is not "identical artwork."  You just continue to argue in your insipid fashion, because you aren't big enough to admit to being wrong.  Now you resort to personal insults while abandoning actual debate, the sure sign you have lost.

In summary:
- The 25th Anniversary Pac-Man artwork is not "identical" nor is it "close to identical" to the original Pac-Man artwork.
- "quarterback" and "pointdablame", after calling me "anal", proceeded to show themselves to be even more anal than I could ever be.
- The entire argument is horribly, painfully stupid and pointless, yet the blame falls squarely on 2 children who cannot admit to being wrong.

I don't give a damn about the stupid artwork.  But I refuse to be silent while you two personally attack me, over an issue you are utterly and completely wrong about.  People like you infest every board there is, people with absolutely no life and no self-worth, the only enjoyment you get in your day is banding together to attack any target of opportunity you see.  Sad pieces of trash.  I'm done with this thread.  Feel free to continue to be as wrong as you want to be, slandering me or anyone else.  I'm just glad there's so many other good people here who rightly say "who gives a ****" rather than joining in on your stupidity.

haha, I love this thread.

Thank you TurboC--  Your are my new best intarweb buddy.  Thank you for calling me trash because I disagree with you, it shows how mature you are, and how "wrong" I am to infest the board with useless crap.  Too bad you don't have more posts than I do, I always love the postcount argument for superiority on web boards.. they're super fun.

You're right... there is nothing similar to the art.  Thank you for pointing that out to me.  In fact, I wouldn't have even known it was a Pac Machine if you didn't point it out to me.

I love PacMan, and I love the intarweb!!  kekeke  Now I must continue my stupidity across the board in an effort to gain self worth.... alas, I pray that one day I may be as awesome as Turbo C--

</sarcastic stupidity>

I'm always amazed at how serious people can get over an online debate.  Resorting to calling people names over differences in opinions.  And of course the "I'm done with this thread"  I'm sorry we made you "take your ball and go home" TurboC, but you should learn to take a joke and enjoy a bit of a debate online... it's all in good fun.

Like I really go around SERIOUSLY debating the intricacies of arcade art to prove how superior I am.... it's the internet, don't take it so seriously.  I'm just messing around when "debating" on here.  Take a look at the Everything Else board and see how much fun we really do have on this board.

I'll even apologize if I insulted you, but really, try to take things a little less seriously.

Man that thing is ugly. The all-over yellow cab is just nasty looking. On the original the black balanced it out a bit. Why in the world would someone at Namco think that it would look good--even in theory-- to  take the original sideart and slap on a giant decal with different-styled art on it? You'd think they'd have seen as many bad conversions as we have.

Do you think the other side has Galaga sideart with a giant Pac-man over it?  :)

It is good that they included Pac-Man without a code, but obviously they're just trying to cash in anyway. I thought the reunion cab was well done, but this is just scary. I feel sorry for the Ms. Pac artwork that's barely there at all.

I really like the look of this 25th cab.

I like it better than the original actually, and that is mainly because of the "all-over yellow", and the 25th Anniversary logo doesn't bother me in the slightest. :P

It also appears to have a slightly stronger curve to the front, which I like.

Only entering the thread since this is totally off the other topic.  I've heard the Pac-Man T-molding can fade to yellow over time.  I can't say with 100% certainty what "the original" was.  My Pac-cab has orange, and from the damage it seems like it's been on there a long, long time.  Yellow T-molding wouldn't make a very good contrast to yellow paint, anyway...

I guess, I found out whats on the right side of cabinet art. I stop by my local arcade dealer and got me about 15 flyers and look/played the demo on the floor and the sideart on the right side is the same as the ms.pac re-union....Galaga sideart.

I even tried DF Ultracade stuff and the New Tekken 5.
Ultracade had Tempest running with a trackball, and Asteroids with Joysticks.

The original Pac-Man had orange t-molding. Without fail, though, they ALL seem to have faded to yellow. Oddly, it's a yellow that matches the original paint job farely well. Want proof of the original color? Pull up that yellow t-molding and look underneath. It still ought to be orange under there.

I found this cab @ my work. On the sixth floor of my building, its set to free play. Cab looks nice, plays good, played galaga for about 5mins, its set to unltd continues, high score for galaga was at 407,000. I thought it was impressive until I figured out the continues in galaga kept your score going, still pretty cool that its at work. I think my company has it since we recently launched retro namco games for our cell phones to be downloaded. If anybody wants i'd be more than happy to take hi res pics of the cab and side art with my digi camera.

I have to ask then; is your marquee light a fluorescent bulb?  Mine is.

I've seen pictures of dismantled Pac-Man machines that had orange T-molding and they had two incandescent bulbs behind the marquee.

I've also noticed that the ones I've seen with orange T-molding do not have the metal Midway plate on the back of the machine.

I saw mention of the blue-speckles; mine also has these all over it.
