Last night I loaded up metal slug 3 for my first time. I have the default controls going on all Metal Slugs in my cabinet. It works fine with my joys and buttons (running through Ipac).
Metal Slug has 3 buttons that I know of, 1 for fire, 1 for jump, 1 for grenade. For some reason, the default config works good - BUT - if you jump and fire at the same time, it makes you toss a grenade. Not a huge issue but it bugs me.
So here is the deal: last night on MS3, it was tossing grenades when I didn't want it to, and it was torquing me off, so I hit tab and reconfiged my buttons to see if it would help. For some damn reason, now none of the buttons BUT grenade work!
I tried remapping to buttons 4, 5 and 6 on my cp and nothing worked. So now it's totally hosed and I have no idea why it's not working. No other games have ever done this to me.
Anybody know whats up or am I just losing my mind?

I don't know what's going on with your config but I think I know how to undo what you did. In your cfg folder in your mame directory find the .cfg file for the game that is hosed. Delete this file and the controls will be back to default.

I just had to do this after setting the controls for one of my games to accept practically the whole damn keyboard for one of the buttons. Whoops.

LOL must have been something in the air last night. I was trying to remap keys in MK3 last night and ended up hosing the config badly. Had to delete the config and start over. Wonder if theres a Y2K3 bug approaching in MAME ;D In all seriousnous (sp?) though it's weird happening to more than 1 person overnight like that.

I went home over lunch and deleted the config. Then I went back in to look at Metal Slugs default config. This time I carefully read things before jumping in and making changes! Boy does that help!!!
It looks like on player 1 in Metal Slug, button 3 - grenade, is mapped by default to two different keys. On my set up, one of those keys is my actual button 3, and the other is my button 2, so when I was hitting button 2 for jump, it was jumping and throwing the grenade.
This time I just remapped button 3, and everything is now working good. Thanks for the help guys!
