This kind of story's been repeated over and over since Rock and Roll was new (if not long before).

Offhand I can think of 2 or 3 of these sensationalized stories from the last few years like the ones relating to green polo shirts, bluetoothing, etc.

Same old story. Scare the parents with stories about how all the kids are *doing it*.
