Title: 2nd Power Supply
Post by: NathanRB on August 09, 2005, 08:36:46 pm
Would you think it crazy of me to buy a second ATX power supply just to power the lights that I am going to use to light the Marquee, the fans, and anything else I may want to use it for?

Or should I just keep splitting the current power supply with Y connectors?

Thanks,
Nathan

I don't know what kind of lighting you're planning on using for your marquee, but florescent fixtures take AC power, not DC.

For other DC lights, I'd just split it from your existing PS.

If you do get an extra power supply, my advice is to get an AT and not ATX.  The reason is that the AT PS can be turned on without being hooked up to a motherboard or hacked.  Very easy to hook up lights, fans, etc.

You could probably pick up an AT supply at your local used computer store for $5.

What's the wattage of the first one? How many drives and other parts are you running off it?
