Title: Still some classics making money
Post by: Scoobie on August 08, 2005, 02:31:26 pm
On a recent trip to San Francisco, the Pier 39 arcade had a small section of classics.  One of them was Frogger and another was Tron.  I haven't seen either of these games in an arcade for about 15 years!  You can still find Ms. Pac, Robotron and Galaga at most Gameworks, but not Frogger and Tron.

Just thought I'd share...

You guys in the US don't know how lucky you still are. I am already pleased to find something with a videoscreen that is NOT a F$%@*NG Photo Play cab) !!!

Good place in Holland: Pretpark Slagharen, amazing range of pinballs (that nobody seems to be playing  :'( :'( :'(

Awwwww... Pier39! Man, that's where I first saw Dragon's Lair. Big huge group of older teens gathered around it and I couldn't wait to get my (4!) quarters in.

Last time I was there was in... hrm... 95 or so to film "man on the street" interviews with gamers for a new business pitch where I worked. It was a shadow of it's former self. Reduced to a few fighters and nothing else I recognized. Well, at least they kept a few classics!

I was there a few years ago, before I was really into arcade stuff. I did get to play a real vector Battle Zone with scope though. I think that is probably when I got the furthest I have ever gotten in the game (which is not far).

I visited SF once in junior high or high school (I forget). I remember Pier 39. It was all full of VR games when I was there. I got a kick out of them because I was from a small town and had never seen anything like that. My favorite was playing Ridge Racer in a full-sized Mazda Miata with a big wrap-around movie screen. New school or old school, you gotta love that.
