Ms. Pac man for 1 thing was the most popular game, and the new Ms,Pacman/Galaga combo machines are still top earners according to the operator survey conducted by replay magazine each month!

At 16, I understand why you wouldn't get this one....

But it was/is a great game in the fact that it is easy to learn but difficult to master and still a ton of fun to play.  That and the fact that is was the sequel to the most popular game of its time.  Most of all it puts me back to when I was even younger than you, so it can't be all bad.   :)

I suppose this begs the question, what will 16 year olds be nostalgic for in 20 years?

The sad thing is 16 year olds probably won't be nostalgic for ANY arcade games in 20 years.

I'm 21 and already get looks from friends when I talk about them... it carries a "yeah it was something to do when we were young, but it didn't mean a whole lot" feeling with a lot of people I talk to.

If anything, it'll be BEMANI games.  Things like Tekken and Cruisin... they all had console ports that were played much more often by most people in that age range.

You can put a Ms Pacman in a bar location today and still make money (women love it). That's why everyone wants one.

So true.  My step son's step mom (follow that????) was over one day picking him up.  She played for awhile on my cabinet simply because she could play Ms. Pacman.

They didn't have realistic graphics, so a lot of thought was put into gameplay, and the ability to easy play a game.

This is exactly why Intellivision, Atari and Nintendo still have such a hold on some people.  They were cool then, and still are to some people, because they were fun to play despite the graphics.

I am so freaking old (37), I remember playing a MECHANIC racing game, where the car you drove was a little plastic thing with a sticker representing a racing car, and other cars would swoowsh by, faster depending on your gas pedal....thing is....those machines were mechanic, no random factor and after a while, I discovered there was one pattern and I think I could still play it today blinded :)

Or there was this machine where a mechanic little bi-plane was going round in circles on an arm. You could go up and down and adjust the speed if I'm correct, and you needed to fly through a barn etc.

Those were the games (next to the pinballs with reel-scoring) in the "arcade" that was at our camping site in mmmmmm, end of the 70's ? So imagine all of a sudden there's a game with a TV screen....only thing I see is white blocks swinging left and right and there's a steering wheel (like on the mechanic game). So What the hell is this, pop in a quarter (of a guilder) and there I was, playing my first ever videogame (I now know it was Nightdriver, or probably a clone).

OK, so what has this to do with Ms. Pac Man I hear you say...well, it's the complete picture you need to have of that time. When you're 16, you grew up with at least Nintendo I guess....so unbelievably more sofisticated then the games I'm talking about.

Now Ms. Pac Man for me....well that brings me back to uhmmmm 1982-83

The only game I have seen in the last couple of years I can invision talking about years from now is the Golden Tee series.  That was the sole motivation for me stumbling into MAME.  It is that single game that I know I can find at any bar and is fun for everyone to play.  Now, I'm not sixteen, but it has been around for the last eight years, and I look forward to each new edition that comes out.  I could play Tiger Woods untill I'm blue in the face, but you can't replace that machine.

Here's something sad: I'm 15 and was playing Space Invaders on MAME for 2 hours yesterday. I have a top score of 250,000 on MAME Centiped. 75,000 on MAME Ms Pac Man.

You're probably right.  People are CRAZY for Golden Tee, something I have never understood.

I had never even heard about it until ~2001 when I was living in Chicago.  I was looking for some music bar nightlife so I was flipping through some weekly rag and kept seeing bars with "We have Golden Tee!" in their advertising.  I was like "WTF is Golden Tee?"

The only thing that confused me more was my discovery that it was a freaking golf video game.

I still don't get it, I mean golf? Maybe a couple of games, but not where's the golden tee!!!

They even have tournaments! I say it's cool though, keeps arcade games alive...

I'm (literally) a card carrying  Golden Tee fan. My stats follow me from one machine to the next. It really is a great game.

The oldest game I remember was the Odyssey - I remember having the plastic overlays you put on the tv, then play the game. Ah, the good old days!

For me, like so many others in my mid-20s demographic, it was Street Fighter 2.  I had goofed around in arcades before but never really was blown away until SF2 hit the scene.  It had 6 buttons!  That was twice as many as any of the other games I'd ever seen.  It was so complex too, there were special moves that required real skill to pull off.  How many of you guys remember how tough it was to learn the dragon punch?  Forward, Down, Down-Forward - it doesn't even make sense!  Once you mastered it though, you were unstoppable.  I spent my lunch money every day at the local convenience store, battling it out with all the other latch-key kids.

Once the SF2 craze wore off (got watered down with all the different versions?) there was Mortal Kombat.  The graphics were unlike anything before.  It looked so real!  And the first time I saw Sub-Zero rip out a spinal column I knew this game was something special.

For me, MAME takes me back to those good ole' simple days.  I think that's how it works for everybody, whether you cut your teeth on Street Fighter or Pac-Man.

she is not my most favorite game, close but not the #1. Galaga has that rank for me.
My wife only liked ms pac. I have her playing galaga and klax.
I am building a Ms Pac for here.
1) seems most wanted game on ebay.
2) I found a original case ( drove like 10 hrs to get it but it was a mini vacation for my wife and I)
3) I promised my wife I would build her a Ms pac if I really built arcade cabs.
since I am putting 7 of them together I am living up to my word and trying to make this one the best I can do.

Ms. Pac Man and Galaga are the first games that come to mind whenever I think of the old classic arcades.  Also, they are the only two classic games that can still be found in arcades, bars, laundromats, etc.

I'm not even 16 (15) and I'm already nostalgic about arcades.. and no not DDR, the arcades down here are dead now. Good old memories of playing classics in the arcade such as Outrun, and while the games I played may not be as old as Ms. Pac-Man or Galaga, I still love the classics of the early 90s that were incredibly common and popular back in the days.. sounds weird coming from a 15 year old, but they'll always be my favourites. I already own my "holy grail" that is terminator 2, and my megatech that lets me play great games like golden axe, streets of rage.. and am still on the lookout for the good old machines =)
Not all of us teenagers are the same, I'd much rather play outrun than the latest bog standard driving game.
A lot of those machines are still probably common in arcades around the US/rest of the UK, but arcades are dieing/dead around cornwall at least...
Very sad.. :(

Oh, and by the way, I spent years of my life playing a LOT of those old classics on my Amiga, so I love those too! I'm very much a retro gamer..
