Title: WTB: De-gaussing coil [DFW,TX - US]
Post by: AlanS17 on August 07, 2005, 05:56:46 pm
Would someone be willing to sell and rent their de-gaussing coil to me? I have monitor with wierd color issues.

I'm rotating it to a position it doesn't appear to like. I really hope this is the only problem with it, but I won't know until I hit it with the de-gaussing coil. If I still have problems i can go from there, but I'd like to start there first.

Yes, I'm now even more certain the problem is magnetic fields changes. I rotated it while on, and got pretty colors.

The monitor should already have a de gaussing coil around it.  Try keeping it in the same position and turning it on and off again a few times.  The discoloration should fade every time you turn it on and off.

When I was working on a cocktail cab the monitor became discolored because I was moving the monitor around so much while on and off.  I freaked out at first and looked up de gaussing stuff too.  But after keeping it in one position and turning it on and off a few times the discoloration faded after having it that way for a week or so with a decent amount of play time its basically gone.

It's been in one position for a few days now. It's not alot better. I'm not done moving it, though. So we'll what happens when I'm finally done.

Yes, it has a degaussing coil. It just isn't working so well.

If all else fails use a drill or a blender. ( any high speed motor will do)
just use the base of your motor and go in a circle around the monitor. ( spiral really) work towards the center. motor running the whole time. once you get to the center pull away and then stop motor. repeat if needed.
works every time.

I have used a hair dryer a few times, but takes like 5 times to get it all

That's pretty cool. I have a couple of toasted monitors. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

No offense. If I wanted to pay full price for a degaussing coil I could get one anywhere. My problem is that I'm cheap. That's why I'm asking here.  :)

Step 1. Open mouth
Step 2. Insert foot

I'm just used to seeing you sell stuff on here as a Happ distributor. I guess I should have PMed before making a comment.
