Title: Anyone filled holes in a metal CP?
Post by: Rook3 on August 07, 2005, 04:59:08 pm
I have a converted metal control panel from a Cinematronics Cosmic Chasm.
Since it appears to be the same size, I want to convert it into a Dragon's Lair/Daphne panel for my future project.

I'm guessing it may involve spot welding metal below the existing holes, and then using bondo or some such material to fill in the rest and make the panel flush?

Has anyone ever "filled in" the holes on a metal panel?

Any help appreciated.

Russ

I basically fill the holes with bondo.

take 1/4 ply (I luaun cause it's cheap) and glue(or epoxy)  it to the back of the CP.  Then from the front fill in the CP with bondo.  Let it dry, sand it smooth...voila  new CP.

of course you could weld plugs back into the CP, but I can't weld   ;D

I epoxied some small metal strips beneath the holes, and then filled them from the top with bondo.  You can see the results in the control panel section of this page (http://jhanson.com/arcade/xevious).

1/4" fender washers are a tiny bit larger than the holes for CP buttons. I've ground them to fit and welded them into a few of my control panels to fill in button holes I didn't want.

Pics and a detailed explaination of how I did it in my Dynamo (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=12414.0) cab thread.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

The existing holes in the CP do not in any way match up with Dragon's Lair, or I'd re-use the holes that exist. What a pain. :)

Thanks again!
