Howdy,
Is there a joystick that handles 2,4,8 and analog, and can rotate?
Probably not
But, what joystick comes close? Is there a single joystick that is most compatible with all of MAME's games?
(Right now I'm just using an 8-way)
Has anyone invented an electronic 4/8/analog switch? That would be cool.
Thanks,
Craig

Thank you :)
Do you recommend a particular brand or should I just Google it?

Search the threads in the Main forum. It's a popular topic. You can browse and find it.

Thanks again.
I have a Pac-Man (with only 1 stick) while sorting my ROMs I started to wonder if there was 1 that could handle all of them.
Have fun,
Craig

It depends on what you really want.
If you have to have a rotating 49-way, the Happ style is the only one available at the moment.
I personally don't care for them because they feel too floppy to me.
The Williams style has more resistance to it, but possibly a little TOO much at the extremes of travel.
I prefer the overall feel of them to the Happ ones, but they are a little harder to control subtly.
As far as the encoder goes, Groovy Game Gear is the only game in town on that.
DaveB has a 49-way encoder, which works great for 49-way and most analog games.
It doesn't do the digital restriction that the GGG one does though.

The joystick bolt pattern for the metal control panel on your Pac Man is not going to match up. Do you plan on converting an original Pac Man for MAME?

Oh ... say it isn't so ...
Cheers.

Yeah, I've already got my hand swung back over here. ;)

Thank you all for the information and recommendations. You've saved me much time :)
As for chopping a Pac-Man up : mine, ofcourse, is scratch built!
Now to read those links...
Have a nice day,

AH! A sigh of relief... :)
If you want to buy one new you'll probably have to go with the Happ joystick. The rotary attachment is designed for that particular stick too, I believe.
I'm pretty sure there are aftermarket ball-top shaft replacements. You might consider that approach if you want to keep that classic feel.

I like the yellow PC in the pac-man cab to keep it "themed". 8)
