Title: Mame List in Mamewah & Screenshots
Post by: topdawgg on July 27, 2005, 02:41:47 am
So i got the PC up and running, sound runs fine... I am using the following:

Mamewah 1.6
Mame 98
Windows XP pro
64meg ati card
256 ram

In mamewah I am using the option to show the list via the rom folder name.  Abviously this has very poor naming conventions... so how do i go about the other options?

I know what the other options are but not how they are created.  Like the rom_folder_list_vs_xml or whatever...

Basically can i make a mamewah view a different type of list that is more specific and if so how?

Lastly, I have many games that do not have screenshots... is there a way to take a screenshot in game and have it associated with the file?  If so How?  Or if I get updated ROM's will every game have a screenshot?

Thanks to all.

For MAME leave that setting as the default, ie 'rom_folder_vs_listxml'.

Anything that includes 'listinfo' uses 'mame -listinfo' to generate the info (MAME v0.83 and previous).  Any that include 'listxml' are for later MAME versions.  There are a few others which I'll explain if you're interested...

Not sure what you mean exactly, but you can make custom lists.  There is one setup for MAME by default, hit Games List Options > Select Games List and pick the second one down.  You can use this to generate filtered lists (see Games List Options > Generate Filtered List...).

Just hit F12 in MAME.

I guess I wasnt very clear.  When I currently view the games list in Mamewah, it says things like pacmanj, stf1j, or mspacmanp.  Basically I would like the game to be Street Fighter 1 Old Version,  Ms. Pacman, or Pac-Man.  So anotherwords, the games list you see in mamewah ... is there a way to associate a different name other than just the rom name folder with the game itself?

Secondly, if you hit f12 in game to take a screenshot ... where does that screenshot download?  After I find out where it downloads... all I have to do is drag it to the snapshot folder?  How does mame know which snapshot that file should be associated with?  Is it the rom_folder_name?

-Thanks!

No, you were clear...read my answer again.  And after you've done that re-generate the games list.  *Never* use 'rom_folder' as the list_generation_method for MAME!

Set the 'snapshot_directory' accordingly in your \mame\mame.ini file.  If you don't have a mame.ini file, create one...it explains how here: http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mamew32setup.htm .

MAME automatically names the snapshot suitably (same as the romname), so once you have done the above, you don't need to do anything else (assuming you have the 'artwork_x_image_path' set accordingly in Mamewah).
