I know this is a bit of a dog of a system, but does anyone know any decent games?? I had one years ago, but only had a few games (takes a long time to save with just a paper round!).
Most of the games are either grainy FMV games (ie crap 99% of the time) or a remake of a Genesis game with a grainy FMV intro lobbed on (which often makes the games presentation worse, IMO). But there are a few games worth having, just wondering if anyone can add to my list?:
Silpheed
Thunderhawk
Final Fight CD
Sonic CD
...

Back in the day, I had an assload of fun playing NHL Hockey (forget what year), FIFA Soccer, and Dark Wizard... any Working Designs game is great (LUNAR)...
I don't care what anyone says, I like Sewer Shark.
-
get the out of this world sequel that was only released for the sega cd.
-
Though in the end disappointing because of what it cost and didn't ultimately deliver, the Sega CD was a great time for the coolness factor. It was the first CD system that most people got and it DID deliver some ass kicking stereo sound that again most people hadn't had before the Sega CD. That stereo sound booming really added to the experience of 8 of us sitting in my friend's tiny bedroom in 95 degree heat playing FIFA for hours.
-
It was NHL Allstar Hockey '94 or NHL 94 that was on it? Right?
-
No no, would have been earlier than that.
-
Definitely couldnt have been 1990. Thats when Genesis came out. LOL.
And SNES in 1991.

Hell yeah. I feel eternally gypped for never having an opportunity to play this game. Wasn't it called Heart of Darkness or something? God, Out of This World was a fantastic game -- way ahead of its time.

I loved Flashback. It hit just about every console. It was like a sequel in gameplay to OOTW.
Sonic CD was AWESOME. I actually beat that game in a single life. My friends and I had a contest where we picked 5 games and we got as far as we could in a single life.
I never dreamed I would beat it.... but man I sure did. A great accomplishment for me in my young age. ;)

Now was that with all of the Chaos Emeralds?
As soon as my Cabinet is up and running the first game I'm gonna try is Popful Mail. I never really got a chance to play it when I originally owned a Sega CD. Just got my hands on another one.

Thanks for the replies :)
I agree, the Sega CD was great even if a lot of the games were a bit crap. I'm taking the opportunity to setup the few games I had and the ones I always wanted...I've found a few I didn't even know about.
Sonic CD is good, I like the 'Sonic 1' feel of the graphics...it's almost like Sonic 1.5.

I was going to suggest Ecco the Dolphin but I don't remember if it was a significant upgrade from the wonderful cartridge version or not. I think it was.
I found this page (http://www.eidolons-inn.net/segabase/SegaBase-SegaCD.html) that has a comprehensive SegaCD history and includes detailed discussion and tables of the best games for the platform. Very interesting read. Ecco is on their list.

Thanks for that - really useful! :)

As always I'm a day late and a dollar short on the discussion, but I agree with Chad - Sewer Shark was awesome! It was probably the first game I ever completed on my own, with no guides...and I spent HOURS at the system improving my skills. I don't know - despite the somewhat silly script, the actors / actresses had fully thrown themselves in the roles - just made for great fun!!

It was FMV and stupidly simple, but I liked it too. Silpheed wasn't too bad either. Panic was cool if you were into cartoon slapstick mixed with random button pushing. Everything else was a waste of money,
Sega, I want my $300 back.
-
Dude, everything else? Lunar launched one of the best game franchises out there.
-
YEAH, Lunar rocked
-
I literally got my entire Genesis setup JUST for Lunar 2, which remains one of my top 5 RPGs to this day(still the SegaCD version, even).
*shrugs*
I was a Nintendo fanboy during hte 16-bit era, and was pretty sure that the Lunars were the only thing worth playing on a Genesis.

Not Heart of Darkness. Heart of the Alien. Now I'm all excited. Is there an emulator for Xbox that will play Sega CD games?
-
I don't even think there is a working emulator for the PC.

Huh? Try Gens & Fusion. I use Fusion, it's superb :)
-
Ah, last time I checked, which was admittedly quite a while ago, there wasn't one yet and the guys working on them were saying it may not happen.
-
i used gens, never heard of fusion
-
SNATCHER was an awesome game. So was Shining Force CD. If you are into older fighters, Eternal Champions on Sega CD had a larger number fo fighters and was pretty cool. I also enjoyed Night Trap... you might too, if you are into that sort of thing.
-
it took me forever to beat night trap

The author (Steve Snake) just added ArcadeVGA support, which is great (Gens doesn't have it). Overall the emulator is great too, especially considering it's relatively early in development.
Oh, and did I mention it can run Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Master System, GameGear, SG1000 & SG3000 and is completely cabinet friendly??? ;D
-
Where can I get ROMS? ;)
-
iso's you mean
-
er....yeah.
-
how about "revengers of vengeance" (i think). i barely remember the game, just that it was awesome and had a hidden pong type game
-
I've heard Shadowrun is quite good. (different to the cartridge version)
Also quite hard to come by... and only in Japanese... :(
If anyone gets a copy of it & then writes a translation patch for it... let me know where to get the iso ;D

By the way, there is a version of Gens for the Xbox, for anyone who's interested. I haven't tried it yet, so can't say how well it works.
-
by they way, Eternal Champions is the bomb
-
Dragon's lair was ok.

Wikipedia still is the best place for listing complete console game libraries:

No reviews or recommended games, but maybe something to refresh your memories of what was available.
