Title: cabinet prices
Post by: kiddk1 on July 24, 2005, 10:30:35 pm
what would one pay for a cabinet(none working) in decent condition from an arcade dealer.  I have been calling around and received different prices.  I just talked to a guy at a local shop who has a street fighter cabinet that has everything in it but does not run, he said he wants $200, I want it for a mame.
what do you guys think?

thanks.

It should all depend on the the condition of the cabinet, functionality remaining (such as if the monitor still works, even if the game does not), and size of the monitor.  I don't think $200 for a non-working Street Fighter II cabinet is that good of a deal, especially if the 19" monitor is shot.  You should be able to check around craigslist or Ebay to find a suitable empty cabinet or non-working game for a much better price.  Good luck.

Kiddk where do you live.  Try going to a place where there are a ton of games like bowling alley or skating rink.  Ask the owner if he owns the games.  If not ask him for the name of the name of the owner.  Sometimes there owners have more broken machines than working ones and would love to strike a quick deal.

I'm selling a Virtua Fighter cabinet.  I'm asking $300 for it.  After working on the cabinet a little while I realized that the shell itself is kinda messed up from the humidity down here.  It's got a 25" dual-resolution normal/high monitor that has zero burn-in.  There's a ton of pictures in the B/S/T forum.  All controls and coin door works.  The game itself plays flawlessly too.

I'm in the Atlanta, GA area.

Ask him how much he wants without the monitor. Price should drop to $100.

I am in the metro detroit area, the problem with interstate purchases is the shipping is a killer.  I have called a handful of places already and when you tell them you want a nonworking unit they think you are crazy or they try to act like they are doing you a favor.  I will keep shoping around, thanks for all the tips.  I

Did you go to namcoarcade.com?
You can search for used games and get the technicians numbers.  They usually have a few non-working ones they will let go cheap.

A rough guide I follow.

An empty 19" gutted cab (no wiring, missing coin door, unpopulated CP) = $25
An empty 19" wired cab (JAMMA harness, ISO transformer, PS, CP) = $75
A complete 19" cab (with working halfway decent monitor), no PCB = $125-$150
A complete 19" cab with sharp/bright monitor, generic PCB = $175-$225

If it is a 25" cab and/or a nice big 4 player CP, expect to pay more.

Also try contacting Delta88 (from here).  Hes in your neck of the woods (lots up there actually).. But Delta88 goes through cabs to restore often.  And he was getting rid of some a bit ago.   Good guy.

The prices above are right on... but in one case.  I think that getting the perfect cab style is worth 25-50 bucks (ie, gauntlet if you want a 4player is worth extra) and the big one.  Sideart.  If you love the artwork it can be worth a LOT.  If you can find a cab that you love the look of... and you don't have to repaint ect... its worth an extra 75+
