Title: Help Identifying Driving Control
Post by: toolaa on July 23, 2005, 11:03:48 pm
Anyone know which Game this was from?

Also, this wheel seems to have some sort of additional motor I though It was used for some sort of force feedback, however I can't seem to see how it would work.  It's not actually linked to the rotating part of the wheel or shaft in any way.

Is this a Happ control?
If it is a force feedback wheel can it be used with MAME in any way?

Thanks,

John

I don't know what game it's from (could be anything)...

Force feedback cannot easily be used with MAME.  The Final Burn FF emulator has feeback support for OutRun - you might be able to hook it up for that somehow (by hacking a PC force feedback device).

Perhaps the feedback mechanism just gives some vibration rather than 'real' force feedback (?)

I went back and looked again and I believe that's it.

Looks like a Taito wheel, from the chase HQ series

That is a control panel from "Outrun" by Sega. When you crashed the car the wheel would shake erratically in an attempt to simulate an accident. I remember it being rather annoying actually but still kinda cool. They didn't have actual "force feedback" when this game was released but I believe this is one of the games that put the bug in the ears of the game developers to later design and perfect what we all know today as "force feedback".

Thanks for the help on this one everyone.

Personally I am fascinated with driving games.  My dream is to build my own Cockpit from scratch.  When I saw this CP at Coinopwarehouse I just thought that it may come in handy some day.

Driving controls are expensive and any unit made for PC or Console just don't have the feel of a real wheel.

It looks like a Sega Turbo panel.
