Title: When you die, what will become of your "collection"
Post by: stellarola on July 22, 2005, 01:10:56 am
I've been kind of pondering this lately. I'm young now (19), so I think I still have some time left but to those who have spent lots of hours and money on your "collection", what is going to come of it? I mean you've wasted all this time working on your games, what are you going to do with them when you die? This seems kind of like a depressing subject. I suppose this can be said about people buying things they don't really need, especially things they don't need that cost a lot of money. Just write in your thoughts, I don't really want to make you guys think you should stop building and start spending time with your family or anything :P. So...what's up?

They will probably be long gone, or long non-working by the time you die. Most people tend to get out of the coin op hobby (arcades, pinball, EM games, etc), in their mid 40s. It seems to be most popular with single people in their late 20s, and married guys in their 30s. Most guys end up seeling their collection sometime in their 40s because THEY stopped playing them years ago, the kids don't play them anymore either, and it just sort of gets depressing. The more games a person seems to have the more likely they seem to be to sell them off.

I'm only 15, and pretty sure I've got at least 75 years (if all goes well). I want to be buried inside the case of my Space Mission Pinball Machine. My soon to be collection will hopefully be with me as long as I know what the word "collection" means

I am 26 and my family is just starting.  I hope that this machine will be one of those neat things my kids will want to keep around for awhile and keep in the corner.

Ah, the immortality of youth.  The first real accident you witness will change that.

I figure, if I still have all my stuff when I die, my sons will have it.

Wasting time??? none of it's a waste of time..........  ;D

I don't really want to make you guys think you should stop building and start spending time with your family or anything :P.

I build my cabinet with my kids...... so I consider it quality time with them.... They are also learning a lot during the construction process....and we're all having a good time.............

I think my BYO projects should be put in a museum dedicated to me and my life when I die..... 8)

If that doesn't happen well then the kids can fight over 'em.......... ;D

Of course I'm gonna have to eat an awful lot of popcicles in order to save enough sticks to build it.

Then when you get angry, you could actually ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- a brick.

That was always one of my aunt's favorite euphemisms.

I'm pretty sure you can be jailed for trying to auto censor a brick around these parts. :)
