Ok, I'm almost done with my cab.

Which game was the cabinet from?

Does the control panel have a hinge on the bottom edge and tilt out when unlocked?

Does the glass at the top of the bezel fit into some slot or opening under the marquee?

It was a Mat Mania.  I fabricated my own CP.  The CP does have a hinge and tilts outward.  There is no slot yet for the plexi.

If you're really worried about the measurement and you can't get a tape measure in there well enough use twine, fishing line, or weedeater string.  Don't use regular old kite string as it will stretch.

Have some one hold the string and then mark the bottom and top.  Then just measure between the marks.

Go get yourself a FOLDING tape measure.

If you can't measure with THAT thing, your cab is simply going to fall apart anyway ;D

I've got a situation kind of like the one you describe (no clear reference point to measure to) so I'm using a piece of masonite as a surogate pane of glass.

In your case, I'd cut a strip of the stuff a few inches longer than you need and start hacking off bits until it fits the way you want it, then measure your strip of masonite.

For those who wonder "WHENTF would I ever use one of THOSE?" now you know.  These DO have their uses, and this is a case of one of those times
