Title: Quick clarification - 2 *optical* joys, OPTI-PAC, & XP
Post by: MKChamp on July 19, 2005, 09:17:59 pm
Hopefully someone can provide a simple answer for what I hope is a simple question.

I have all my buttons and joys going through the ipac. I have just recieved 2 optical joysticks from Happ Controls.
I am running the latest standard MAME in XP. I understand there is an issue with multiple mice etc in XP.
Can/should I route spinner one to x axis and spinner 2 to the y axis of the player 1 rotary on the OPTI-PAC? I do not have any other devices that would be going through it.

I just need to know how to wire those 2 spinners in XP.

Thanks to anyone that can offer advice.

I posted this on the ultimarc board, but there isn't the activity over there that there is here!

I do not have a optipac.
you can have 2 mice hooked up in XP.

I miss understood the hole thing also not to long ago.
I hooked up a USB track ball and a ps2 mouse up. Both work fine. They both controll the same courser.
so...
1 J-stick is x
1 j-stick is Y
equals 1 mouse. Just change the configuration in Mame for the joysticks and you should be fine.
that's it for a mouse hack. I would not think optipack would make it any harder than that. ( can not say for sure since I have never seen one)
I am doing the mouse hack for a super sprint cab. 1 wheel y the other x.
one mouse. Plus a Crayola PC track ball on a table for this cab

I would wire one to each axis, just as you have suggested.

In the future, or perhapse you want to change the title now, what you're talking about are uaually refered to as "optical rotary joy" or just "optical rotary" will due just fine also.

The term "optical joy" generally refers to Happ's Perfect 360 which, in case you don't know, is an entirely different beast that uses beams of light instead of microswitches to detect the position of the handle in up to 8 directions.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm hooking the control panel back up today. I'm hoping they play 'decent' for Tron!
