I'm about half way done with stripping the pain from my cab, and have started thinking about how it should look.
I was initially thinking about all black with red T-molding. Does anyone have a cab like that? If so, can you post a quick pic?
I was also thinking about starting with just plain black sides. Maybe adding side art later. If that is the case, would it be better for me to paint it black, or use a laminate? Is any one better with side art than the other?
I've convinced my wife to allow the cab in a common area of our house, so I need to keep it somewhat conservative until I can test the waters of how much arcade art she'll let me have on it :)
If anyone has any cabs that are 'mild', post a pic of it, so I can get some ideas.
Thanks!

How about a nice blue or green? Think "navy blue" or "hunter green". If your wife has to be "convinced", those two colors will probably go over A LOT better in her mind than "I'm going to have to look at that big black monstrosity in my house?"
If you're unsure, ask her what darker color SHE thinks she might like....tell her to think of it as a bookcase (you don't have to tell her it'll be 3 times as big ;) ), and ask her what she thinks the primary color should be. You can always go with black t-molding on either of those colors, and it'll look nice, or ghetto it up and slap on some white or yellow t-molding ;D
Personally, I'd go with navy and black t-molding, but seriously, "convincing" the wife will go a lot easier if she feels like she has somehow "saved" herself from having a big ugly thing cluttering up her house.

Ok, I know, I know. You don't have to rub it in. At least I'm man enough to admit that my wife has a say in what comes into the house. :)
It can't look any worse than it does now. Half stripped and all.
Actually the color black was agreed upon. Our color scheme in that room is black and red (think modern.... not strip club!).
I'm also thinking of blue T-molding on black cab.
Still waiting for pics....
Thanks!

Hey Stobe -
I did mine yellolw w/black t-molding. I think it turned out pretty nice, and not as loud as a black cab could be IMO. I've attached a pic, or you could go to my website to see a few more.

My cabinet is Purple with Yellow trim. My buds built black cabs with red trim.

I really like the look of your cab, and think yellow is awesome for a cab... but how is yellow not as loud as black.... Yellow is a much "louder" color than a regular old black cab IMHO.

Black with red t-molding:

I think the original MK cabinets were black with red trim.
On my personal desktop CP I went with navy T-molding and a black CP and sides, so that can look good also.
I also think the appropriate sideart, done well, gives the cab a more authentic look and would "blend" in better in the house, in some cases, than a solid black side border.

Thanks GameOver and Javeryh for the pics.
I really like the 'classic' color scheme (black on yellow). It looks the most authentic when you think about video games.
I like the No Quarter cab as well (great name, Led Zep influence?)
Now I'm thinking of blue on black as well, a la Pacman maze type artwork ??
Keep 'em comin!

Actually, now that I think about it - let me brag on Knievel's cabs some more -
Blue on Black - Neon MAME - http://www.freewebs.com/knievel/index.htm also http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=30538.0
Red on Black (well, probably orange, but you get the idea) - Flyercade - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,30403.msg270597.html#msg270597

Remind me to never claim to be influenced by one of Knievel's projects.
That would be similar to Rosanne Barr claiming that her singing was influenced by Celine Dion.
But on the subject at hand, those are great examples of the colors I was looking for.
Thanks TH
