My cabinet is within a week of being fully operational....I am probably going to play Stargate as my first game on my machine. Just wondering what anyone else played as their first game on their new machine.
-
you'd think my avatar would be a dead give away, but actually it was Galaga, followed by Moon Patrol.
-
The first game I played was Punchout because it was one of the first arcade games I really got into...although I sucked at it then...and I suck at it now. Talking about bringing back memories. I also played Star Castles and Battlezone because those were the only two arcade cabinets they had in the small podunk town I lived in when I was a mere scrub.
-
My cab is probably about two days from being playable -- which is not to say "finished." (Still waiting on the speakers and the marquee lighting to arrive, then there's the question of a REAL control panel and CP & side art...)
I'm betting I'll play either Galaga or Centipede or Frogger first.

galaga then space invaders then metalslug, then the beers started to kick in.
-
during progress I played a bunch of simpsons, after 99% done for now i played Bust a move!
-
Street Fighters 2 Championship Edition, followed by a game of Frogger.
-FTen
-
TMNT followed by Street Fighter Aplha 3.
-
Pac Man!
-
Street fighter II CE.
-
Rampage!
-
I think i played Arlington Horse Racing first(one of my favorites), followed by SF2CE.
-
First, I played Robotron. Then, I played Robotron. After that...
-
You have to wait until the cab's finished to play it? :o
-
Q*Bert!!
-
Definitely Galaga for me.
My original plan was to buy and restore a Galaga cab but they always seemed overpriced at Super Auctions. I then ran across BYOAC and the plan to build was born.
That was many years ago. I still have and play my original upright.
-
For both MAME cabs I restored, the first game I played was whatever game was in the cab when it was sent from the factory. Its like a cheesy-tribute kinda thing....
In this case, I played Gauntlet in my Gauntlet cab, and Mk3 in...well...the MK3 cab.
-
you'd think that my nick would be a giveaway, but my first game when it was COMPLETELY complete was Galaxians. during construction and testing it was commando and Rezon (to test horizontal and vertical orientations)
-
I just finished up my third night building and things are coming along quite nicely. I think my first game will probably be Tempest, likely followed by Tron, as I will finally have the controls I need.
OH, and then Heavy Barrel and Ikari Warriors to test out the Happ's optical rotary sticks! 8)
-
The first game I played on my cab was Defender, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Galaga (fast shoot) probably. It's been a few years, so I don't recall exactly. Since Galaga was the reason I built the thing in the first place, I'm pretty confident.
-
Finally had access to two 8-way joysticks after years of dreaming--Robotron HAD to be the first game I played.
-
Gladiator! I loved that game as a kid. Then I switched to Ms. Pac-Man.
-
Well since my cab has only bin done for 3 weeks or so I would say as soon as my cab was up and running I played some X-MEN then some Simpsons with the wife and finally some Donkey Kong.
-
<---- Legend of Kage, of course. 8)
-
Galaga was the first one I fired up.
-
Rolling Thunder 2
-
I'm pretty sure it was either Galaga, a variation of Pac or DK the first time I played my cab. It was just barely functional at the time though, and nowhere near completed, it was only 'playable'.
Considering the fact that I open it up and tweak it pretty often, I guess the thing still isn't "finished". :)

-
For me it was Russian Attack followed closely by NARC, then a little battle zone and Karate Champ :)
-
RYGAR
-
Frogger. Let my wife be the first to play. That lasted 30 seconds. I've been on it every since.
-
It was PacMan, then Ms. Pac...
-
If you mean finished finished, well, I'm not there yet, but.....
I'm building a modular so every time I get a new panel together it's got to go through rigorous quality control. Robotron (with it's two eight ways) was first, then Asteroids (2 - 2 button panels plus the 1/2 player + 1 button panel), then a spot of Speed Rumbler.
The defender/stargate 4 button panel is done now, so the 2-way joystick + 1 button will be next and then it'll be time for more quality control.
-
The ORIGINAL Mortal Kombat...

Of course, MKII and MKIII are better playing games, MK gave me that nostalgia feeling!
-
For my vertical cocktail, UFO Robo Dangar followed by Tempest.
-
I can't remember either. But heavy money's on Galaga.
-
I am embarassed to say I have not gotten that far yet with any of my [mame] cabs... ::) But I imagine that the first game I play will probably be whatever is at the top of the game list (for testing purposes!)
-
definitely Galaga, I never knew so many people loved that game as much as I do, It seems to be the most popular first pick overall.
-
The first game I played on my cab was Defender, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

hehe.
-
Been 18 months, but the first few I played were Strider, Magic Sword, and Defender. One of those.
-
Donkey Kong. That was the first followed by the Mrs. pushing me out of the way to play Centipede.

-
Cadillacs and dinosaurs duh ;D
-
Depends on how you define "finished". Played Pac-Man when my cp was done, Robotron when it was done again, and will play Centipede with my new trackball when it's done for the 3rd time. As for the cab itself, I played it ever since it was MDF propped up on 2x4's, and every chance I could in between. Must've been the reason it took me 2 1/2 years to finish the bugger. Anyway, let's call it Pac-Man. Guess I just wanted to make sure the joys worked and worked my way up from there....
-
LOL
That's why I built my CP last!

In order:
1) Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior
2) Galaga
3) Gyruss
4) Frogger
5) Dungeons and Dragons: Tower of Doom
6) Puzzle Bobble (with girlfriend, and got beaten badly)
-
wizard of wor, although my cab is not exactly done
-
Donkey Kong - and it was almost a religious experience. I'd forgotten what it was like to push a REAL button and make Mario hop over those barrels.
That was before trackball arrived...first trackball game I played was Centipede...and of course a round of Tempest once the Tornado Spinner was installed also!!

Donkey Kong - and it was almost a religious experience.
I keep telling myself that I built this cabinet for my kids as a Christmas present. They do love it. In fact, it's the only present they're still playing with. I can honestly say that I love it as much or more than they do. I grew up dropping quarters into machines like a mad-man.
There was a real sweat spot in arcade gaming in the mid-80's. Personal opinion; the birth of the fighting games really killed the arcades. --> keep reading before you flame! They're good games and a lot of fan-boys love them. The problem was in the complexity of the games. They removed all the instant gratification achieved by "classic" games. Anyone from 5 - 55 could drop a quarter and play Donkey Kong, but games like Mortal Kombat required much more knowledge about the controls. The audience for those games was much smaller and as a result we no longer have the big arcades of yester-year.

my frist was space duels , then i played missile command
for a few hours , but ofcourse i had to change the control panel

I just had to have a Tempest Spinner and researched every spinner option before settling on the V2.
