Just an idea............

when you click the search button it should go directly to the advanced search page insted of the generic seach page...........

people may find it better..........

It used to.  I don't know why it changed.

It has been the simple form for more than 6 months. Simply bookmark the Advanced search, or click the link. Most users don't need the advanced screen.
