Title: Oscar, in case you needed more convincing...
Post by: AGarv on December 22, 2002, 07:27:51 pm
about offering a "Discs of Tron" style spinner control, please take a look at this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=749220858&rd=1

That's right $129.07 as of this posting, and over three days left in the auction!

What is wrong with people that they'd pay so much?!!?!

This one killed me too;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=748966933

Over $31 and a day remaining for two scratched up atari start buttons...

Well, these aren't necessarily Mamesters.  Maybe just some folks trying to restore some Atari cabs...

It is a pretty specialized controller that's not available for purchase elsewhere.  I think that your "What is wrong with people that they'd pay so much?!!?!" question could be applied to most of us here, after all. ;)

Ahh, I haven't seen that DOT spinner for a while...

The current owner was very gracious and allowed me to hang on to that spinner for a loooong time.  Long enough to create shop drawings from it that are accurate enough for a faithful reproduction.   ;)

There are three pieces to the spinner that would require custom machining, so it may not be a cheap repro!

The biggest problem I've had so far is finding suitable leaf switches for it.  I have yet to find a reliable supplier of that particular style of leaf switch, so the plans may need to be altered a bit to substitute microswitches in their place.
